LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sean 'Diddy' Combs is under intense scrutiny following allegations that he paid $50,000 to the InterContinental Hotel for security footage showing him assaulting his ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, during a violent altercation in March 2016 as reported by PEOPLE.

This revelation is part of a bombshell civil lawsuit filed by Ventura late last year, detailing a pattern of abuse.

The graphic video, released by CNN on May 17, shows Diddy, clad in a towel, chasing Cassie down a hotel hallway. He grabs her by the neck and forcefully throws her to the ground, then kicks her as she lies motionless. Diddy then drags her by her hoodie and later throws an object at her. The video has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for accountability.

Ventura’s attorney, Douglas H Wigdor, expressed his client's distress, stating, “The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr Combs. Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light.”

IHG Hotels, which formerly managed the InterContinental Hotel, stated, “This hotel is no longer under IHG management, and we do not have any access to prior incident records or footage.”

Cassie Ventura's lawsuit, filed in November under the Adult Survivors Act, outlines the hotel incident in harrowing detail.

It describes how Diddy, intoxicated, punched Ventura, gave her a black eye, and chased her into the hallway while throwing glass vases at her. Ventura managed to escape to the lobby and called a cab but returned to the hotel out of fear of further angering Diddy. Hotel security, aware of the incident, advised her to leave for her safety.

The lawsuit also alleges that Diddy paid the hotel $50,000 for the security footage from that night, further implicating him in efforts to suppress evidence of his violent behavior. Ventura's 35-page complaint includes additional accusations of rape and sex trafficking, depicting a prolonged and vicious cycle of abuse from 2007 to 2018.

One day after the lawsuit was filed, the parties reached a settlement. Ventura stated, “I have decided to resolve this matter amicably on terms that I have some level of control. I want to thank my family, fans, and lawyers for their unwavering support.”

Diddy also issued a statement, saying, “We have decided to resolve this matter amicably. I wish Cassie and her family all the best. Love.”

PEOPLE obtained a statement from Diddy's attorney, Ben Brafman, in which he stated, "Just so we’re clear, a decision to settle a lawsuit, especially in 2023, is in no way an admission of wrongdoing. Mr. Combs' decision to settle the lawsuit does not in any way undermine his flat-out denial of the claims. He is happy they reached a mutual settlement and wishes Ms. Ventura the best."

On December 6, 2023, Combs addressed the allegations against him for the first time.

In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, he said, "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. For the last couple of weeks, I have sat silently and watched people try to assassinate my character, destroy my reputation and my legacy. Sickening allegations have been made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday."

On May 15, Combs responded to federal raids on his properties, posting a message on Instagram reading, "Time tells truth." He signed off on the post, adding, "LOVE."
