Eagles safety CJ Gardner-Johnson shades Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s relationship after Super Bowl win

NEW ORLEANS, CALIFORNIA: It can safely be said that the Philadelphia Eagles safety CJ Gardner-Johnson is not a fan of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s romance.

After his team thrashed the Chiefs 40-22, to win their second Lombardi Trophy on Sunday, February 9, at the Super Bowl 2025, Gardner-Johnson did not miss the chance to diss the Chiefs’ tight end’s much-documented romance with the pop sensation. 

In the wake of the Chiefs’ loss, the 27-year-old Eagles safety appeared to shade the celebrated tight end’s romance with Swift, when he insinuated that Kelce should have stayed with his ex-girlfriend, Kayla Nicole.

CJ Gardner-Johnson disses Travis Kelce’s romance

In an apparent effort to mock the Chiefs star’s relationship, Gardner-Johnson took to his Instagram Stories to seemingly imply that Kelce floundering about his past romance with Nicole has, in a way, contributed to the Chiefs’ loss. 

Taking to his Instagram Story on Monday morning, Gardner-Johnson shared an image of his in-field interaction with Kelce, writing, “Should’ve stayed w that thick s****.”

While he initially did not hint who he was referencing in his post, hours later, the athlete confirmed that he was throwing shade at Swift by posting a sultry bikini image of Nicole alongside his original post. 

Nevertheless, he deleted the post after a few hours amid mounting criticism from fans, as reported by Page Six. 

While the ‘So High School’ singer was rooting for the Chiefs from her VIP suite where she sat with her friends and family, Nicole was also present in the crowd, though she supported the men in green. 

Kelce was in an on-and-off relationship with Nicole, 33, for five years before breaking up in May 2022. While he was in a relationship with Nicole, the tight end won his first Super Bowl for the Chiefs in 2020. 

Nevertheless, by the time he won the ring for the second time in 2023, he was single. During his third Super Bowl in 2024, when the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in a nail-biting match, he was dating the ‘Lover’ singer. 

Kelce and Swift started dating around July 2023, and their romance has since been getting stronger. 

While the unprecedented defeat left the Chiefs’ fans in despair, Eagles fans were left jubilant with their team’s remarkable feat. Nicole, who switched sides this year to support the Eagles, also celebrated the birds’ win after getting down to the field and basking in the confetti.

It wasn't the best of the Sundays for Kelce and Swift as not only did the Chiefs get thrashed by the Eagles in a humiliating win but Swift also did not receive her usual warm welcome from the crowd. 

As Swift appeared on Caesars Superdome's jumbotron, the crowd brutally mocked the singer. Swift, taken aback, gave a side-eye toward the camera, before appearing to tell her friends in the VIP suite - consisting of Este Haim and Ice Spice - "Aww what, what's going on,” as reported by The Mirror.

Even President Donald Trump took a dig at the 'Lover' singer, as he penned on his Truth Social, “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!”
