NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: On Tuesday, April 30, House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik demanded an ethics investigation into Special Counsel Jack Smith, accusing him of blatant election meddling.

The controversial call came in the form of a fiery letter Stefanik dispatched to the Justice Department's Office of Professional Responsibility, as reported by New York Post.

"It’s obvious to any reasonable observer that Jack Smith is trying to interfere with the 2024 election and stop the American people from electing Donald Trump," Stefanik asserted in a scathing statement accompanying the letter.

Stefanik, widely perceived as a potential running mate for Donald Trump, unleashed a torrent of grievances against Smith, alleging improper conduct in his handling of the explosive election subversion case involving the former president.

The New York congresswoman took aim at Smith's purported efforts to expedite the trial proceedings and his court filings in the 2020 election subversion case, which had been placed on a temporary stay.

Stefanik's ire was particularly directed at Smith's team's plea to the Supreme Court in December, urging the nation's highest judicial body to bypass the appeals courts and fast-track the consideration of Trump's presidential immunity appeal.

"This extraordinary petition sought to bypass the normal appellate process. The only way to reconcile Jack Smith’s filings is to recognize that his obvious goal was not to seek justice and the neutral application of the law, but rather to get President Trump — and get him before November," Stefanik expressed.

At the time, Smith had contended that "the public interest in a prompt resolution of this case favors an immediate, definitive decision by" the Supreme Court, a move likely driven by concerns that Trump could potentially win the presidency and order the DOJ to drop the charges if the trial stretched beyond the election.

In the end, the Supreme Court turned down Smith's request, leading to an indefinite delay of the trial's initial March 4 start date. Furthermore, Stefanik pointed to alleged violations of court orders, emphasizing instances where Smith's office continued legal proceedings despite judicial directives to halt.

Stefanik's complaint against Smith did not go unnoticed, triggering a wave of ridicule from online users. But, that's become a mantra for the @GOP !!!"

Another user chimed in, suggesting, "With the puppy killer sinking in the VP race, Elise is racing to fill the void with nonsense like this." A third individual opined, "Elise is complaint crazy. She files against anyone with whom she just doesn’t agree, which are most judges and all prosecutors in Trump litigation. No substance, just craving media attention."

Meanwhile, another critic quipped, "Elise Stefanik is asking to speak to the manager." A fifth user added to the chorus of disapproval, stating, "The latest (embarrassingly doomed to failure) futile and frivolous action taken by New York's grossest representative."

Another user didn't hold back, bluntly labeling Stefanik's move as "BULLSHIT ALERT: she is another lying trumper."

A seventh user wrote, "Oh stop with your performative nonsense trying to be Trump's VP. You are embarrassing yourself."

Lastly, a user simply stated, "Subtitled 'I haven’t killed a puppy, please pick me.'"
