WASHINGTON, DC: As Donald Trump finds himself entangled once again in the shadowy legacy of Jeffrey Epstein, a new twist has emerged.

Federal Election Commission filings reveal that just three weeks after Elon Musk publicly suggested Trump was implicated in sealed Epstein files, he quietly cut a $5 million check to the president's super PAC.

The donation, made on June 27, came shortly after Musk's explosive June 5 statement pointing fingers at Trump as the reason the Epstein documents remain hidden.

Elon Musk donated to Donald Trump's super PAC and key Republican fundraising arms despite feud

In early June, tensions between President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk escalated dramatically. On June 5, Musk ignited a firestorm by claiming on X (formerly Twitter), “@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”

The reference tapped into a long-running conspiracy theory alleging the government possesses secret records naming powerful figures involved with the disgraced financier. Trump, who previously vowed to release those files if elected, has yet to do so.

Two days later, on June 7, Trump hit back. Warning of “very serious consequences,” he threatened retaliation if Musk followed through on a public threat to fund primary challenges against pro-Trump Republicans in Congress who supported his so-called "big, beautiful bill."

Behind the scenes, according to The Wall Street Journal, Trump aides even considered terminating Musk’s lucrative federal contracts, but abandoned the idea once they realized the deals were too essential to scrap.

Despite the heated exchange, Musk did not move to challenge Trump’s congressional allies. Instead, in a surprising pivot, he donated $5 million to Trump’s super PAC, as well as to two key Republican fundraising arms, the Congressional Leadership Fund and the Senate Leadership Fund.

Perhaps most tellingly, Musk seemed to walk back his attack on Trump shortly after the dust-up.

He reposted a Truth Social message in which Trump decried Los Angeles as “invaded and occupied by Illegal Aliens and Criminals” and vowed federal intervention. Musk added two American flag emojis to the repost, signaling a return to solidarity. He also boosted another Trump statement demanding apologies from California leaders and branding anti-Trump protesters as “troublemakers and insurrectionists.”

In a matter of weeks, Musk went from Trump’s accuser to major donor and online amplifier, leaving the public to wonder.

Internet thinks Elon Musk is trying to get back in Donald Trump's good graces with $5 million donation

While the official reason behind Elon Musk’s $5 million donation to Donald Trump's super PAC remains unclear, especially given their recent public feud, online speculation has filled the gap. Social media users have been quick to offer their own theories, many hinting at ulterior motives.

“$5 million's s bargain bribe to keep his contracts,” one user alleged. Another suggested, “Trump's policies are devastating Tesla (and many other American companies). Musk is trying to get back in Trump's good graces.”

Others questioned Musk's intentions more broadly. “It looks like Musk is buying himself back into Trump's good graces. What's the motive this time?” one commenter asked. Another quipped, “Elon is Trump’s piggy bank.”

The surprise donation also raised eyebrows about Trump’s campaign status, with one user asking, “Donated... Is Trump running for office?” Others expressed confusion over the political structure itself, with one writing, “Why does Donnie have a Super PAC?”

An indvidual summed up the sentiment bluntly, writing, “Musk has billions in contracts with the federal government that need approval. This is Corruption In Action.”
