WASHINGTON, DC: Elon Musk’s father Errol has defended his son after the Tesla CEO came under scrutiny for his views over several political issues, including race, as he became the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under the Donald Trump administration.

In response to a Washington Post article that said, “Elon Musk, once a tacit backer of DEI, now focuses on anti-White bias,” Errol claimed in an email that his children were not into “political nonsense” while growing up in apartheid South Africa during the 1970s.

“We lived in a very well-run, law-abiding country with virtually no crime at all. Actually no crime. We had several Black servants who were their friends,” the South African businessman asserted, as per Newsweek.

Elon Musk’s ex-classmate says they ‘grew up in a bubble of entitlement’

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt slammed The Post article: “This story is literally just combing together random things from the internet to paint Elon Musk as a racist. Get a life.”

But Rudolph Pienaar, who went to school with Musk at Pretoria Boys High School, seems to disagree.

He shared, “We grew up in a bubble of entitlement. I am not sure if Elon can conceive of systematic discrimination and struggle because that's not his experience.”

“His life now in some ways is how it was under apartheid — rich and entitled with the entire society built to sustain him and his ilk,” Pienaar added.

Elon Musk’s political transformation shocks former classmate

Elon Musk, once seen as a moderate Democrat, has over the past few years become increasingly conservative and taken up a prominent role in the Trump administration. He has also made it clear that he is against “woke” culture. As head of DOGE, Musk has primarily focused on eliminating DEI initiatives.

The Tesla CEO's political transformation has made him popular among the far-right, not just in the US but in other countries as well.

He has now emerged as a supporter of the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD), stunning one of his ex-classmates.

“I am incredibly sensitive to racism because of where I came from, and for him to support this far-right party really blows my mind,” Gideon Fourie, who now lives in Germany, told The Post, as per Daily Beast.

He added, “Everything that has happened in the last few years was very contrary to the trajectory I thought he was on.”

Elon Musk supports Marko Elez who made racist posts

Recently, Elon Musk reinstated Marko Elez, a former DOGE employee, who resigned after his racist posts went viral.

One of his problematic posts read, as per BBC, “Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool.”

Another post stated, “You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity.”

But Musk shared on X, “He will be brought back. To err is human, to forgive divine.”

Vice President JD Vance also supported Elez as he tweeted, “Here’s my view: I obviously disagree with some of Elez’s posts, but I don’t think stupid social media activity should ruin a kid’s life.”

“We shouldn’t reward journalists who try to destroy people. Ever. So I say bring him back. If he’s a bad dude or a terrible member of the team, fire him for that,” Vance wrote.
