Elon Musk's ex-wife Talulah Riley rejects 'trad wife' label after moving to countryside home with husband
NORTH HERTFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND: Elon Musk's ex-wife Talulah Riley has refuted the label of a "trad wife" following her marriage to Thomas Brodie-Sangster and moving into a countryside homestead.
Riley, 39, discussed her rural lifestyle in North Hertfordshire, England, where she prepares homemade meals and tends to a variety of animals in a piece for The Sunday Times, the Daily Mail reported.
Elon Musk's ex-wife Talulah Riley rejects 'trad wife' label
“We live in an era where lifestyles are commoditized online, indexed by hashtags,” the actress elaborated in the think-piece published on Sunday, December 1. “We are encouraged to ‘be the brand’ and exert influence, prioritizing personal growth.”
Nevertheless, she dismissed the idea of defining her lifestyle, describing her situation as "many-faceted."
“So please don’t call me a trad wife,” she requested about the viral term that denotes the traditional role of a stay-at-home wife and homemaker. “I’ve been divorced twice — there’s nothing trad about that unless you’re Zsa Zsa Gabor.”
The 'Pride & Prejudice' was married to the billionaire founder of Tesla from 2010 to 2012 and once more from 2013 to 2016. The former couple has no children together, although Musk has 12 children with three different women, Page Six reported.
“Happiness, for me, has wandered in slowly and seems directly proportional to the number of chickens that come tapping at the kitchen door every morning,” Riley wrote.
She mentioned that her current husband “might also have something to do with it.” Riley referenced the philosopher Spinoza, stating, “Happiness is a virtue, not its reward.”
“So I’m going to focus on propagating rosemary rather than personal growth,” she wrote, adding, “Here on the (fake) farm it’s all about love and manure, actually. Slap a hashtag on us, if you will. Or come and join us.”
Talulah Riley and husband Thomas Brodie-Sangster embrace rural life
Riley, self-described as "privileged and unemployed," lives with the 34-year-old 'Love Actually' star on nearly 20 acres. Their menagerie includes four dogs, two horses, a pony, two pigs, a beehive, three geese, 15 chickens, numerous ducks, and 70 sheep.
They are also considering acquiring a dairy cow because she is "mad for raw milk."
“I’m now in my 30s and safely home in the UK, and it’s full steam ahead on the rural idyll,” Riley mentioned her short period of living in Los Angeles with Musk.
She went on to say, “Thomas, who was born and raised within the sound of Bow bells, took to country life immediately, though he still pretends not to know the difference between a horse and a cow to liven up long car journeys. He is a carpenter and mechanic as well as an aesthete.”
Riley and Sangster exchanged vows at St George's Church in England on June 22, surrounded by friends and family after meeting on the set of the FX series 'Sex Pistols' almost three years earlier.
