WASHINGTON, DC: During a recent interview with Nexstar Media’s Reshad Hudson, President Joe Biden mistakenly referred to the Israeli port city of Haifa as the last refuge for civilians in the Gaza Strip, which is Rafah.

Per the New York Post, the incident occurred when the Commander-in-Chief was asked about his strategy for winning back pro-Palestinian voters following Israel's recent conflict with Hamas.

The 81-year-old incumbent president's confusion between the two locations was a notable gaffe that was shared extensively on social media platforms prompting backlash from netizens.

What did President Joe Biden say regarding Gaza in his interview?

After asking the POTUS about his approach when it comes to gaining the trust of pro-Palestinian voters back on his side, Biden replied, “I’ve been meeting with them, number one.”

“Number two, I made it clear that we have to vastly increase the amount of food, water, and healthcare going into Gaza,” he continued.

“And I made it clear to Israelis – don’t move on Haifa,” Biden added, seemingly trying to say Rafah on this occasion.

At that point, Biden appeared to lose his train of thought and his interest in going into further detail.

“It’s just not, I mean, anyway,” the President of the United States said.

Over the past few weeks, the Gaza Strip town of Rafah has drawn significant attention due to Israel's attempts to secure the release of Hamas-held hostages and eliminate members of the terror group.

The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has expressed his determination that "no force in the world" can prevent the Israeli Defense Forces from advancing into Rafah.

This town, which has over 1 million Palestinian refugees, is currently the most populous in the Gaza Strip.

Rafah is thought to be the location of four of the six Hamas battalions that remain operational.

Haifa, Israel's third-largest city and a well-liked tourist spot is located more than 100 miles to the north of Rafah.

A significant number of social media users have criticized President Biden for the verbal gaffe that he made. Some of these users have interpreted the mistake as a sign that the President, who is known for his frequent mid-speech blunders, is experiencing cognitive decline.

A poll conducted by ABC News/Ipsos in February revealed that 86% of US adults believe that Joe Biden, the oldest president in US history, is too old to serve another term in office.

However, the White House has disputed these claims, asserting that President Biden, who would be 86 years old by the end of a second term if he is re-elected, is not experiencing cognitive decline and “doesn’t need” a cognitive assessment to prove it.
