Emily Blunt reveals why Cillian Murphy is 'the worst celebrity' despite being her 'favorite actor'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Emily Blunt, who starred alongside Cillian Murphy in 'Oppenheimer', has called her co-star the "worst celebrity in the world" and shared the reason behind her bold statement. In the film, Murphy portrayed J Robert Oppenheimer, while Blunt took on the role of his on-screen wife, Kitty.
Despite labeling him the worst celebrity, Blunt described Murphy as the "best actor" she's ever worked with, offering insight into why she holds such contradictory views.
During an interview, she revealed the fun and energy Murphy brings to the set, describing how the whole room "crackles with a certain life force" when he's around, highlighting the dynamic between them.
Emily Blunt reveals why she thinks Cillian Murphy is worst celebrity
In a '60 Minutes' interview earlier this year, Emily Blunt referred to her 'Oppenheimer' co-star Cillian Murphy as the "worst celebrity in the world." This came up while discussing their relationship after Murphy described feeling emotionally drained and exhausted after filming 'Oppenheimer'.
When award-winning host Scott Pelley asked, “You describe him as 'shy', not able to handle a compliment. Does he know how good he is?”
Blunt quickly disagreed, saying, “No, I don't think so. I don't know if any of the great actors say that about themselves. I feel he is always in search, looking ahead, looking off to the horizon. He's looking at 'What else can I do? How far can I push it?'”
Blunt continued, “I think it would be so painful for him to acknowledge how good he is. He's the best actor in the world and the worst celebrity in the world.”
Pelley, looking confused, asked her to clarify, to which Blunt explained, “He's my favorite actor I've ever worked with because he is unparalleled in what he can do and how he pulls you in. The whole room crackles with a sort of life force when you work with him. It's wonderful.”
When the host asked Blunt about Murphy’s routine, wondering if he stays in character all day or switches it on and off, Blunt chuckled and said he switches it because “that's just how good he is. I have pictures in our old prosthetic makeup and we're literally crying with laughter,” she shared.
Blunt also described the lighter, off-camera moments with Murphy that brought joy to their time together.

Before the '60 Minutes' interview, Cillian Murphy, who won hearts with his portrayal of Robert J Oppenheimer in the 2023 film, shut down Emily Blunt when she attempted to delve into his personal life.
This incident occurred after Blunt sat down for an interview with SiriusXM, where she discussed working with Murphy in Christopher Nolan's movie.
While filming the segment, Blunt noticed her on-screen husband approaching the interview area. In the original interview, she gave him a shoutout, but the channel later shared an extended clip on Instagram, showing more of their interaction.
In the clip, they exchanged greetings, and Blunt asked, “Did you sleep?” to which Murphy replied, “Yeah.” She followed up, “Did you do nothing last night?” to which Murphy responded, “I had a bath.”
Blunt, in mock shock, replied, “I did too,” before Murphy quickly ended the conversation with, “Too much information.” Blunt then turned to the camera and jokingly added, “Guys, Cillian Murphy had a very long bath last night.” The exchange ended with both actors laughing.
