'Everybody's different': Keith Urban discloses key to his 17-year marriage to Nicole Kidman

AUSTIN, TEXAS: Keith Urban spilled the beans about the secret to his happy marriage with Nicole Kidman. 

The duo sparked romance after coming across each other at the G'Day USA gala in 2005. Kidman announced their engagement in May 2006 and the couple tied the knot the very next month.

During the 2024 CMT Music Awards red carpet, when E! News host Paul Costabile asked Urban to shed some light on his happy 17-year married life, he said, "If I answer that, it'll come across as advice for other married people. I have no advice for anybody."

The musician added, "You guys figure out whatever works for you. We're figuring it out. You figure it out. Everybody's different." 

Urban also noted that "there's no one size fits all" advice when it comes to marriage.

Elsewhere during the interview, Urban hinted that he and Kidman might collaborate on a song. The 'Somebody Like You' star noted, "We sing around the house a lot. So, why not?"

During her 2013 appearance on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show', the 'Big Little Lies' star gushed over her musician husband.

At the time, she shared, "The great thing about being married to a musician—you have music in the house all the time. There is something very joyful about having music."

"Keith can play pretty much any instrument. He'll just play piano at 7 in the morning that's what we have—breakfast around the piano and very much a part of our life," revealed Kidman.

In 2019, Kidman told PEOPLE Magazine about the exact time when she realized Urban was the one. 

She disclosed, "It was my [38th] birthday, and he stood outside with gardenias at 5 am on my stoop in New York. That is when I went, 'This is the man I hope I get to marry.'"

Urban even took her to Woodstock, New York, the location of the 1969 three-day music festival, on a bike for a getaway.

The actress added, "It was pretty intense. I believed by that point he was the love of my life. Maybe that’s because I am deeply romantic, or I’m an actress, or I have strong faith as well, but I just believed, 'Oh, okay, here he is.'"
