'Nice fantasy': Ex-NY gov George Pataki trolled for saying Biden might lose Empire State to Trump this election
WASHINGTON, DC: Former governor of New York George Pataki declared that the Empire State is up for grabs in November, cautioning Democratic voters that as Joe Biden trails in the polls, they are coming to terms with the fact that he is "screwing up royally."
Joining 'Fox & Friends', Pataki discussed why he thinks New York might be a swing state in this election cycle, given that Democrats are allegedly worried behind closed doors that Biden lacks the necessary skills to win or hold a second term.
George Pataki says there's 'chaos at the top of the Democratic ticket'
"It's [been] a long time since anybody asked me if New York is a battleground state, but this year I'm getting asked that a lot, and I think it's because it is," Pataki said, per Fox News.
"And for that to happen, you need a number of different things. First is you need Democratic voters, a million Democratic voters, to look at their party, look at their candidates, and say, 'We're screwing up royally,' and you have that. You have the chaos at the top of the Democratic ticket," the former governor added.
"You have inflation, you have the migrant crisis in New York City and now in the suburbs, and it's leading a lot of Democrats to say, ‘Hey, wait a second, maybe my party has let me down, and I… should try something different,’" he continued.
Joe Biden is polling only 8 points ahead of Donald Trump in the Empire State
Joe Biden is only eight points ahead of former President Donald Trump in the New York polls, per Siena College Research Institute.
In 2020, Biden defeated Trump in the Empire State by a margin of 23 points. Just between February and June of this year, Trump's popularity increased by 3 percent while Biden's fell by 1 percent according to polls.
George Pataki says Donald Trump's unconventional campaigning helps him break traditional political barriers
George Pataki, the former Republican governor of New York from 1995 to 2006, claimed that Donald Trump's nontraditional style of campaigning is enabling him to overcome established political hurdles.
"You need a candidate who's going to campaign differently, and you saw that with President Trump," Pataki said.
"He held his rally in New York, not on Long Island, not in some suburb, but in the South Bronx, and that's exactly what you have to do. You have to reach out to minority voters, African-American voters, Latino voters, and, of course, Jewish voters are very upset with Biden, so there's a real opportunity in New York," he explained.
Donald Trump held a massive rally in South Bronx back in May
In May, Donald Trump gathered thousands of supporters in Crotona Park for a massive rally in the South Bronx, vowing to "save" the Big Apple from Democratic policies.
He described it as a "city in decline," but he promised to turn the trajectory "around."
Joe Biden faced mounting criticism in recent weeks regarding his reelection bid
Bipartisan calls to withdraw from the presidential race have also increased in recent weeks as Joe Biden's critics question his suitability for the top political position.
The initial cause for concern stemmed from a subpar debate performance against Trump in June 27, during which he occasionally seemed to lose his train of thought and freeze.
Joe Biden made it clear he will not end his campaign
The president made it apparent that he will not be withdrawing from the election during an awkward NATO press conference and in earlier exchanges with the media, despite persistent calls for him to resign from office.
At least nine times during the crucial press conference on Thursday, July 11, Biden appeared to lose his train of thought and referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as "Vice President Trump."
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine was also introduced by Biden as President Vladimir Putin before the briefing. "This is just an ongoing disaster," Pataki remarked.
Internet mocks George Pataki's claim of Donald Trump defeating Joe Biden in New York
Netizens seemingly disagreed with the former governor after he stated that Donald Trump has a very good chance of winning the key state of New York in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
However, several polls have suggested Trump has the edge over Biden and even popularity among the voters this time around.
One X (formerly Twitter) user said, "There is not a snowball's chance in hell of this happening."
"Nice fantasy," one poked fun at Pataki.
"Stop. Just stop. Trump isn't winning New York. He might win Long Island, but that's about it," suggested a user.
Someone else tweeted, "Not gonna happen. In fact, he should focus on keeping Texas cause I'm not seeing Trump love like2020 and TED CRUZ is weak."
