Fact Check: Are John Roberts and James Boasberg in 'secretive, invite-only club' working against Trump?

WASHINGTON, DC: Chief Justice John Roberts rejected calls for impeaching judges on Tuesday, March 18, soon after President Donald Trump demanded the removal of US District Judge James Boasberg who ruled against his deportation plans.

Soon after, a rumor circulated online claiming that John Roberts and James Boasberg were in a secret judges' invite-only club that was working against President Trump. But is there any truth to this? Let's find out below.

Claim: John Roberts and James Boasberg in secret judges' invite-only club

An X user @MAGAResource posted on Friday, March 21, "JUST IN: Chief Justice Roberts’ Secret Club Exposed In a Washington, DC, townhouse, Chief Justice John Roberts sipped bourbon with Judges James Boasberg, Beryl Howell, Amit Mehta, and Ketanji Brown Jackson, members of the elusive American Inns of Court. None are fond of President Trump to say the least."

The post continued, "The invite only gathering, uncovered, buzzed with whispers of judicial strategy, their laughter masking a shared disdain for President Trump. A leaked photo of the night, five robed figures around a mahogany table ignited a firestorm."



 

It further added, "Roberts, when questioned on it, unruffled, claimed it was just a book club, but the public wondered: what are all of these Trump-hating judges meeting about?"

It also had a screenshot of a post by X user @pepesgrandma. The screenshot read, "Breaking expose! FIVE anti Trump judges are involved in a secretive, INVITE ONLY club for judges and lawyers called the American Inns of Court."

It added, "Even the membership and meetings are secret. But somehow the DOJ has shown up at meetings."

The post has received more than 223,000 views on X and more than 1500 reshares.

False: The claims made in post are not true

The claims made in the online post are false as there is no proper evidence to back the viral claim.

Firstly, a simple Google search showed no such results that John Roberts and James Boasberg are in a secret judges' invite-only club that is working against Trump.

Moreover, If this was the case, reputable media outlets would have covered any such news but no authentic media house has covered any such stories.

Similarly, a Google search with the keywords "John Roberts American Inns of Court" or "James Boasberg American Inns of Court" also showed no results that could back the online claim made on X.

John Roberts pushes back against calls to impeach judges

John Roberts issued a statement on Tuesday rebuking Trump and his allies for calling to impeach judges who have ruled against the administration, according to NBC.

He mentioned in a statement, "For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose."

Trump called for the impeachment of James Boasberg after he blocked the deportation of Venezuelan migrants, per the outlet.

Trump posted, "This judge, like many of the Crooked Judges’ I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!!"



 

The POTUS also responded to Roberts during a Fox News interview on Tuesday saying "many people" have called for Boasberg's impeachment.

When Fox News host Laura Ingraham asked him if he would defy a court order going forward, Trump said, "No, you can’t do that. However, we have bad judges. We have very bad judges, and these are judges that shouldn’t be allowed. I think they, I think at a certain point you have to start looking at, what do you do when you have a rogue judge?"
