NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A claim has been going viral on social media that actress and comedian Amy Schumer is moving to London because of President Donald Trump. Many celebrities have said that they are moving out of the US to escape Trump’s polices. However, the claim has sparked speculations about its authenticity. Let us fact-check it.

Claim: Amy Schumer is moving to London because of Donald Trump

The claim first surfaced on a Facebook group attributed to Turning Point USA on January 10.

The post came with the photo of Schumer along with the caption, “Comedian Amy Schumer says she’s thinking about moving to London to 'escape Trump’s America.’”

The claim came up again on Saturday, January 17, in a post on X by the account Red Eagle Updates.

The post came with a caption, 'BREAKING: Famous Comedian Amy Schumer said she will move to London due to President Trump. What is your response?'

Fact Check: Amy Schumer remarked in 2016, later admitted it was a joke

The claim is not authentic as there are no recent reports in major media outlets about the development.

A search on Google also does not generate any appropriate results. However, Schumer did make such a statement, not recently but in 2016.

She later admitted that she was joking when she said she would move to London if Trump were elected president.

“The interview where I said I would move was in London and was said in jest,” Schumer said in the caption of an Instagram post, which showed a picture of Trump and a debunked quote of the president-elect calling Republicans the 'dumbest group of voters in the country.'

“Not that anyone needs more than a headline to count something as official news. Anyone saying pack your bags is just as disgusting as anyone who voted for this racist homophobic, openly disrespectful woman abuser,” she wrote.

Her remarks also resurfaced in 2024.

Schumer wrote of how upset she was about Trump being elected to the White House. She said she is grieving and that her heart is 'in a million pieces.'

“Like everyone else, I am horrified that people believed these bumper sticker slogans filled with hate he spewed,” she said that year.

“People who voted for him you are weak. You are not just misinformed. You didn’t even attempt information.”
