The breaking news originated from a website called The Dunning-Kruger Times, where an article claimed, "Reeves was chosen to present this year's Lifetime Achievement Award by the TV Production Committee, a role he was honored to take on...until he heard that he'd have to share the stage and present the award to Whoopi Goldberg."
According to the expert, Reeves reportedly said, "She's not a nice person."
Fact check: Rumor involving Keanu Reeves and Whoopi Goldberg is not true
After looking into the sources, it was revealed that the article where the news first spread dates back to February 2024, as per SoapCentral.
It is also important to note that the publication, Dunning-Kruger-Times.com, explicitly states in its "About Us" section that it is part of the "America’s Last Line of Defense" network, which specializes in parody, satire, and humor.
The website humorously claims, "If you believe that this is real, you should have your head examined." It previously referred to its content as "Junk News," a term once used by Snopes before they gave up their fight against satire.
These disclaimers confirm that the viral rumor about Reeves refusing to present Goldberg with a lifetime achievement award is completely false.
Furthermore, Christopher Blair, the creator of the article for Dunning-Kruger Times, issued a statement to clarify the claims, "Everything posted on any website or Facebook page affiliated with Allods is intended as satire. There is no 'source'—we deal in fictional confirmation bias."
As of now, neither Reeves nor Goldberg have commented on the viral rumor involving them.
