A reverse image search for the image led to a photograph, closely resembling the image in question, which shows a Chinese interrogation room (@China768768768/X)

The image, however, is fake and appears to have been generated using artificial intelligence. An analysis of the picture using AI detection tools such as Hive Moderation and ZeroGPT suggests it is very likely to be digitally manipulated.

There are also no official statements from the Iranian government or their local news media outlets about the capture of the pilot, which, if true, would likely have been widely covered.

A reverse image search for the image led to a photograph closely resembling the image in question, which shows a Chinese interrogation room. The earliest version of the image was posted in July 2025 by a Chinese news outlet.

A fact check by Grok on the image states, “Not true. Iran shot down a US F-15E fighter jet on April 3. One crew member was rescued alive by US special forces hours later and is in American custody, receiving treatment.”

“Search continues for the second. No verified captures or footage like this image, which matches the pattern of AI-generated fakes circulating amid the conflict.”

As search operations entered a second day, US forces deployed rescue helicopters on Saturday, April 4, in an effort to locate a missing crew member from a downed F-15E fighter jet.

The aircraft was shot down over southwestern Iran, prompting a recovery mission in hostile territory.

Iranian state-linked outlets reported that civilians and local groups were mobilized to assist in locating the pilot. The incident comes amid ongoing military exchanges in the region involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
