HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA: A claim has been going viral on social media that Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman has left the Democratic Party and possibly switched to the Republican Party. The claim has sparked debate and speculation among netizens, questioning its authenticity. Let us analyze the origin of the claim and fact-check it.

Claim: John Fetterman joined the Republican Party

According to the claim, Fetterman has left his party and joined the GOP. The claim first surfaced on X, posted by an account called John McAfee News, which came with the caption saying, “SHOCKING BETRAYAL: SENATOR JOHN FETTERMAN DUMPS DEMOCRATS IN EPIC PARTY SWITCH – ‘I CAN'T STAY WITH THESE LOSERS ANYMORE!’"

“HE'S JOINING THE GOP TO CRUSH IT IN POLLS AND RAM THROUGH MASSIVE BILLS! DEMS IN TOTAL MELTDOWN AS THEIR OWN TURNS TRAITOR – THIS IS THE POLITICAL EARTHQUAKE OF THE CENTURY!”

“SHARE IF YOU'RE CHEERING HIM ON!”

The post has garnered two hundred thousand likes as of this writing, along with thousands of comments and shares.

Despite publicly making remarks against his own party, often in favour of Republicans, and having faced criticisms from progressive groups, there is no credible evidence showing the senator from Pennsylvania has switched his party.

A look at his official government website or social media handles shows no evidence supporting the claim.

A search on Google or any other search engine generates no evidence showing credible news media outlets reporting on the claim.

The X account that posted the claim describes itself as a fan account, which is not a credible source.

A fact check by Grok, the AI assistant of X confired the claim to be false, stating, “No, this claim is not true. As of February 2026, Senator John Fetterman remains a Democrat, with no official announcements or evidence of a party switch. He has denied such rumors in the past.”

Fetterman is known for his open disagreements with his own parties leading to rumors that he is switching to the GOP.

Recently, he broke with his party to publicly support President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal to acquire Greenland, a move that has unsettled lawmakers across the political spectrum.

Fetterman praised the strategic value of the Arctic territory and framed the idea as a long-standing national security discussion rather than a radical departure in US foreign policy.

While many Democrats have dismissed Trump’s comments as reckless or imperialistic, Fetterman struck a notably different tone, arguing that Greenland holds significant military and geopolitical importance for the United States.

His remarks placed him alongside a small group of lawmakers willing to entertain an idea that has largely been rejected by party leadership.
