MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA: Following the shooting of Renee Nicole Good, 37, in Minneapolis on January 7 by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer, the tension between ICE agents and people escalated. Several clips of their conflicts have also gone viral.

Amid this, a clip went viral claiming to show an ICE agent running toward protesters in Minneapolis before slipping and falling on ice. But is there any truth to the video, or is it a work of AI? Let us find out below.

Claim: Video shows ICE agent slipping and falling on ice

In January, as thousands of officers from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) patrolled the Minneapolis area under directions from President Donald Trump's administration, a clip went viral claiming to show one of the federal agents slipping and falling on ice in the city.

The clip went viral following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. The video appeared on social media platforms like Instagram and X, along with some media outlets and late-night comedy shows.

An X account, Pop Crave, shared the clip and captioned it, 'An ICE agent was caught slipping on ice in Minnesota'. Similarly, an Instagram account shared the clip and wrote, "ICE vs… ice? A now-viral video shows an ICE agent in Minnesota sprinting down a street, before wiping out on a sheet of black ice. Anti-ICE protesters cheer as he jogs away in what one IG user accurately called a 'run of shame'."

Fact Check: The video is authentic, but the man was a Border Patrol agent

The video circulated online is authentic and was not created using AI. However, the man seen falling in the video was a Border Patrol agent, and not an ICE agent, as some social media posts described him.

The agent's uniform and at least one witness account indicated that he is part of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a federal agency that was deployed in the area for the same purpose as ICE, Snopes reported

The video circulated on January 11, 2026, and shows a federal agent with a yellow badge running toward the camera while onlookers jeer at him. The agent then slips and falls on ice in front of a man in a black jacket who was taking photographs with a camera.

Meanwhile, another person in a blue jacket, who was recording the scene using their phone, appears in front of the camera, while another person cheers in the background. The federal agent was then seen getting up and running back to a waiting vehicle.

Christopher Katsarov, a journalist with the Canadian Press, clicked the picture of the federal agent falling and captioned it, 'A Federal agent slips and falls on ice during a patrol in Minneapolis, Minn., on Sunday, Jan 11, 2026.'
