Fans back Wendy’s as it refuses to apologize for mocking Katy Perry's Blue Origin trip: 'No reason'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Wendy’s is standing its ground after facing heat for mocking Katy Perry’s Blue Origin spaceflight.
The fast-food chain fired off a series of sarcastic posts on X that sparked controversy - but it’s not backing down.
Despite calls for an apology, Wendys changed it tone and went soft on Perry but many online users have sided with the brand, saying the jokes were harmless and even echoed their own thoughts.
A smooth landing in West Texas.

Wendy’s jokes about Katy Perry’s return after Blue Origin flight, says ‘can we send her back’
Perry went into space in 11 minutes all-women space flight. She was joined by Gayle King and Lauren Sanchez, fiancee of Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos.

Following her journey, Wendy’s sparked backlash after posting several sarcastic tweets about Perry’s space adventure, drawing both criticism and praise online.
After Pop Crave posted “Katy Perry has returned from space” on X, the Wendy’s official account responded, “Can we send her back.”
The fast-food chain continued its jabs with another post referencing a photo of Perry kissing the ground after the flight, writing, “I kissed the ground and i liked it,” a nod to her song 'I Kissed a Girl.'
Despite the reactions, Wendy’s addressed the controversy in a statement to People on April 17, stating, “We always bring a little spice to our socials, but Wendy’s has a ton of respect for Katy Perry and her out-of-this-world-talent.”
Katy Perry close ones want Wendy 'do better and apologize'
However, some sources are reportedly calling for the brand to apologize. A person close to Perry told the publication, “This was a billion-dollar brand using its platform to publicly demean a woman", contending that "when billion-dollar brands join in, it’s irresponsible."
"[Wendy's is] not adding to the conversation, they’re dragging it down and this kind of behavior contributes to a culture where women are punished for standing out or a woman daring to do something different is a target,” the source added.

“Telling a woman that she should be 'sent back' is shameful bullying and reflects a troubling willingness to tear down in today's society,” the source added. “What’s worse is that the face of Wendy’s is a woman, which makes this decision not just hypocritical, but painfully ironic.”
The source added, “Everyone expected more from a brand with this kind of platform. Wendy’s should ‘do the right thing’ (the name of one of their core values) apologize and do better in the future,” the source said.
Gayle King says she’s ‘very saddened’ by criticism of the spaceflight
The all-women flight also received criticism from public figures such as Emily Ratajkowski and Olivia Wilde, who questioned the cost of the journey amid economic hardship in the US and its environmental implications.

Gayle King, 70, responded during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, saying, “So, I’m very disappointed and very saddened by it,” referring to the backlash.
She added that many women and girls had reached out to her, feeling inspired by the mission.
The spaceflight included filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, and former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, making them the first all-women crew since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo mission in 1963.
Internet backs Wendy’s after roast, says it said ‘what we all were thinking’
While critics pushed back, many online users defended Wendy’s. One user wrote on X, “Pretty sure everyone agreed with them., no reason to apologize.”
Another commented, “Oh please, Wendy just said what we all were thinking. And many others were saying. Frosty’s all-around.”
One added, “No apology needed,” while another said, “Wendy’s is awesome!!!”

Some users continued with the humor from the original post, asking, “Yeah but no one's answering the question, can we? Can we send her back?”
However, others urged the brand to take responsibility, with one writing, “@Wendys do better as a business & brand #apologise.”
Yeah but no one's answering the question, can we? Can we send her back?
