Fans hail Dolly Parton's ‘class act’ as she tells them to ‘forgive and forget’ Elle King’s Opry performance

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Dolly Rebecca Parton, widely known as a "country legend", recently spoke out about Elle King's contentious act on the Grand Ole Opry stage that took place on January 19.

The revered 78-year-old icon received praise from her followers after she urged them to "forgive and forget" in the wake of Elle King's Opry performance.

Following King's performance, an apology was reportedly issued by the Grand Ole Opry. 

What did Dolly Parton say about Elle King?



 

In a recent conversation with Extra, the inductee of the Country Music Hall of Fame shared her views on King's performance.

"Elle is a really great artist. She's a great girl. She's been going through a lot of hard things lately, and she just had a little too much to drink," Parton commented on the act.

At the Grand Ole Opry's tribute concert for the '9 to 5' singer's 78th birthday in January, King took to the stage. She admitted that she was  "f–king hammered" and couldn't remember the lyrics to Parton's song 'Marry Me'.

During the interview, Parton extended her forgiveness and support to the 'Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home)' singer, urging fans, "So let's just forgive that and forget it and move on, ’cause she felt worse than anybody ever could."

Following her performance at the Grand Ole Opry, King postponed several shows, including one at the renowned dancehall, Billy Bob's Texas.

In 2023, King released her debut country album, 'Come Get Your Wife' which includes a collaboration with Dierks Bentley titled 'Worth a Shot'.

King has two No. 1 Country Airplay hit collaborations: 'Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home)' with Miranda Lambert, and 'Different for Girls' with Bentley.

Parton is currently promoting her Duncan Hines baking line and celebrating the 50th anniversary of her 1973 hit 'Jolene'. She also recently released a deluxe version of her Rockstar album, which includes nine bonus tracks, per Billboard.

Fans of the 'Tomorrow Is Forever' hitmaker, who once surprised a cancer-stricken fan named LeGrand Gold with a call, quickly took to social media to hail her as a "class act".

She advised them to "forgive" Elle King’s act, further endearing herself to her followers.

A user on Facebook expressed, "Dolly would never punch down! That’s why she’s so beloved!"

Another fan shared, "Dolly you are the GOAT and this is why."

"Dolly is a class act," hailed a fan.

Another fan posted a heart felt comment, "And this is why she’s the Almighty, she’s our Queen. She’s full of love and forgiveness. Class act right here. Love Dolly!"

Another fan recognized Dolly's talent and said, "Leave it to Dolly to be the gracious first lady of country music that always represents well."
