WASHINGTON, DC: Former Representative David Jolly, who departed the Republican Party and emerged as a critic of Donald Trump, has expressed that first-term Senator JD Vance is "completely unqualified" to be Trump's running mate, as per The Hill.

This declaration comes as Trump prepares to announce his choice for vice president on the GOP ticket for the November presidential election. Jolly shared his thoughts on MSNBC, highlighting the speculations around Trump's imminent announcement.

The top contenders include JD Vance, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, and Senator Marco Rubio.

Jolly remarked, "Look, I think Rubio and Burgum are two very safe picks and I think they both check the governing and experience box," but added, "I think JD Vance is completely unqualified."

Jolly emphasized the importance of having a qualified individual in the vice-presidential role, noting, "As a country, we should want somebody qualified to serve. And I think Rubio, Burgum, whatever you think of their ideology, check that box."

Meanwhile, Vance has expressed interest in the position, though he stated he expects to remain in the Senate.

"I like being a senator. I’m not trying to leave the United States Senate. It’s an honor to serve the people of Ohio, and frankly, if you asked me, that’s where I expect to be in six months," he said. Despite his initial criticism of Trump, Vance has become a supporter, aligning himself with the former president since his Senate election in 2022.

Following the first presidential debate, Rubio, Burgum, and Vance endorsed Trump, praising his performance against President Joe Biden. However, Rubio clarified he is not the vice-presidential candidate, stating, "No one is right now."

Jolly, who served Florida’s 13th District from 2014-17, believes Rubio's experience and Cuban American heritage could attract new voters for Trump. He also pointed out that while Burgum might remain in Trump’s shadow, which could appeal to Trump, the public might not get to know him well enough before the election.

Trump has indicated he will announce his vice-presidential pick at the Republican National Convention, starting July 15, and plans to hold a rally in Doral, Florida, near Rubio’s home city of Miami. However, if Trump chooses Rubio, their same-state residency might pose challenges.

"Look, the convention’s the week after next. Trump has to make a decision soon. Maybe it’s Wednesday. We don’t know," Jolly remarked.

JD Vance trolled online in wake of David Jolly's 'completely unqualified' jab

The online community was quick to troll JD Vance in wake of Jolly's "completely unqualified" jab at him.

One YouTube user commented, "J. D. Vance unqualified then he fits right in with the entire maga party." Another user added, "Vance is a disgrace and failure. Totally unacceptable for the nation."

"JD Vance thinks releasing a book called Hillbilly Elegy qualifies you to be Vice President, lol," said a third user. Another wrote, "You don't have to be qualified to be a VP. You just have to say 'Yes' to everything Trump wants from you. Basically spineless."

More criticism followed, with one user saying, "Vance is the least qualified. That is what Trump wants. Someone to be a puppet."

One user remarked, "JD Vance is a joke! Can’t believe Ohioans voted this guy in," while a seventh opined, "Vance is unqualified. So is Trump. A perfect match of dumbos."

Lastly, a user stated, "Vance is a grifter through and through, he will probably try to make money off all this with a book after election."
