SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA: California Governor Gavin Newsom rang in the New Year with a blistering social media post aimed squarely at President Donald Trump, delivering a long and scathing message that accused Trump of chaos, cruelty, and political fraud.

The post, shared by the governor's press office, mixed a New Year’s greeting with a direct attack on Trump’s record, policies, and leadership.

Mimicking Trump's all caps style, Newsom wrote, “Happy New Year to everyone," before adding, "Speaking of losers, I hope Donald Trump has the 2026 he deserves after unleashing chaos on the people of this great country this year."

The post immediately drew attention for its tone, length, and direct jabs coming from a sitting governor.

In the post, Newsom accused Trump of a series of actions he said harmed Americans, writing that the president marched “soldiers into our beautiful cities,” raised taxes “so he can give your money to his rich friends,” and imposed “stupid tariffs.”

He also accused Trump of immigration and healthcare abuses, claiming he was “ripping babies away from their mothers” and “throwing grandmas off their healthcare.”

The governor further alleged that Trump promised federal aid to Los Angeles residents rebuilding homes and then “vanished,” calling the president “a total fraud, total coward, and total loser.”

“There is a very special place waiting for him (everyone knows where) and it’s not Mar-a-Lago!” Newsom added.

The post also mocked Trump supporters, referring to “deeply disturbed losers suffering from extreme Newsom Derangement Syndrome,” claiming “doctors say it’s curable” but that sufferers “like being ‘miserable.’”

Long-running feud between Newsom and Trump

The New Year’s message is the latest escalation in a long-running and highly public feud between Newsom and Trump.

Over the past year, Newsom has repeatedly used X to attack the president, often employing sharp language, memes, and direct insults.

Earlier this month, Newsom mocked Trump over heavily redacted federal documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case and questioned transparency under Trump’s leadership.

Newsom ignited controversy after responding to Trump’s “I love miners” rally comment with a striking clip referencing Epstein.

Posted by Newsom’s press office, the video splices Trump’s remarks with archival footage of him at Mar-a-Lago alongside Epstein.

Newsom has also criticized Trump over immigration enforcement, federal deployments in cities, tax policy, and healthcare changes.

Trump, for his part, has regularly attacked Newsom by name, blaming him for crime, homelessness, and economic problems in California, and labeling him a “horrible governor.“

In June, Trump even said that he thinks it would be a "great thing" if border czar Tom Homan arrests Newsom.

The Democrat called the remark an “unmistakable step toward authoritarianism.”
