George Clooney's 'vanity move' to NYC for Broadway stint sparks concerns about marriage with Amal
NEW ROK CITY, NEW YORK: George Clooney will soon move to New York City, leaving his wife, Amal Clooney, and their twins, Ella and Alexander, in the UK for his upcoming Broadway stint.
George's decision to move to New York City alone, which will supposedly last six months, has seemingly raised concerns among the couple's friends about their marriage, as per Radar Online.
George Clooney's Broadway role away from wife Amal Clooney is 'vanity move', claims source
George Clooney's Broadway debut, 'Good Night, and Good Luck', is scheduled to premiere in March 2025 at New York's Winter Garden Theatre, as per The Mirror UK.
The 63-year-old actor is set to portray Edward R Murrow in the stage adaptation of his critically acclaimed 2005 film. However, his loved ones have apparently been worried about the stint as it will keep George away from his family for a significant period.
An insider claimed that George is "an absolutely doting dad," so he will "struggle" with being separated from Ella and Alexander for such a long time.
Amal's hectic schedule as a mother and human rights lawyer might prevent her from traveling frequently to be near her husband, claimed a close friend.
They added, "Of course, he'll miss Amal hugely too. George's hopes that the family will be able to make a long-distance living situation work for the duration of his New York stint won't be easily realized."
"Amal has got her hands full with her work as a human rights lawyer, and the twins are in school. They won't be able to drop everything and head over every other weekend, even with private jets at their disposal," the close pal noted.
The source further said that George intends to fly back whenever his schedule permits, but it won't be a simple process. "It is seen by some as a vanity move because he hardly needs the money and surely time with the children as they grow up is more important," they shared.
George Clooney's time away from home will be a 'testing time' for his and Amal Clooney's marriage
According to the insider, there is also "some concern" about George Clooney's coping mechanisms if his Broadway debut doesn't go as planned, especially since "Amal won't be directly on hand to pick up the pieces."
"It has left some friends wondering if this says more about the state of their marriage. There has been talk of a possible split. Whatever the situation, the next six months will be a testing time for them both," the source said.
A source who spoke to Radar Online mentioned, "Actors can really put their reputations on the line on stage. Working in theater is prestigious, but it's high-risk so George's friends are surprised that he's agreed to take on the project."
Friends hope George "gets his mojo back" and that his Broadway run is a huge critical and financial success.
The 'Wolfs' actor said in a statement earlier this year, "I am honored, after all these years, to be coming back to the stage, and especially to Broadway, the art form and the venue that every actor aspires to."
However, given their multiple residences in the US, the UK, and Lake Como, Italy, there is a chance that the two could work things out. George revealed his most recent endeavor ahead of the couple's 10th wedding anniversary in September, per the Mirror.
Speaking about the couple's accomplishments, a source revealed a possible explanation for their happy marriage. They shared, "One of the big reasons Amal and George work so well together is because they're independently successful and secure in their individual fields. They also have great nannies and their houses are like mini resorts."
They also noted that the rumors sway neither of them and that the couple's "separate lives" have turned into "an open joke" among friends.
"Most days they get together in the evening for dinner and a catch-up, but if they need to work into the night or head off to a business meeting, that's not something they sweat about," the insider said.
