WASHINGTON, DC: Far-right activist Laura Loomer sounded the alarm following Netflix’s $82.7 billion acquisition of Warner Bros., warning that the merger would consolidate media power under a Democratic agenda. Loomer specifically claimed the deal could transform CNN into the “Obama News Network.”

Other right-wing influencers, including Benny Johnson, joined in, characterizing the deal as a dangerous media monopoly.

Laura Loomer predicts CNN will become ‘Obama News Network’

Shortly after Netflix announced the definitive deal on December 5, 2025, to purchase Warner Bros.' studio, HBO, and HBO Max, valued between $72 billion and $83 billion, Laura Loomer took to X to voice her stark opposition.

“Get ready for the 'Obama News Network',” she posted, adding the claim: “If Netflix is allowed to buy Warner Bros and Trump’s administration doesn’t stop the merger, CNN will be transformed into the Obama News Network, featuring shows hosted by Michelle Obama where she lectures Americans about how racist and sexist we are.”

Loomer's concern stems from the belief that the Obamas, through their production company Higher Ground Productions, which has a content deal with Netflix, are quietly rebuilding political influence. She argued the acquisition would expand their reach by bringing HBO and other premium outlets under the same corporate umbrella, aligning a massive production and streaming platform with Democratic interests, citing senior Netflix figures' history of fundraising for Barack Obama and Democratic candidates.

Benny Johnson calls Netflix-Warner Bros merger most dangerous media consolidation

Another far right influencer, Benny Johnson, labeled the transaction "the most dangerous media consolidation in American history." He focused on the vast collection of intellectual property being acquired, stating that the Obamas and "Democrat super-donors that run Netflix will now own a monopoly on children’s entertainment."

Johnson specifically warned that with control over franchises like Batman, Superman, and Harry Potter, the new entity would become "the most powerful propaganda machine in history" used to "rewrite the scripts, reboot the heroes, and algorithm-push trans ideology, race guilt, and anti-family messaging straight into your living room."

Johnson’s stark conclusion was a call to action: "Antitrust laws exist for this exact moment. They prohibit mergers that create monopolies... Kill the deal. Full stop."

Additionally, Charles R. Downs, an "America First" influencer, wrote that the deal meant the Obamas "can no longer allege there is racism in the media," adding that it’s "absurd that Michelle Obama is still running around screaming ‘racism’ every other day.”

Right-Wing lawmakers demand antitrust intervention

Former Rep. Matt Gaetz directly urged the president’s replacement for Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to shut down the acquisition. Gaetz, posting on X, stated, “TRUMP MUST STOP THIS! The DOJ and PamBondi will surely see this as an anti-trust violation and deeply harmful to the marketplace.”

Gaetz concluded that the merger would create a "homogenized, woke nightmare for the media landscape." This perspective is shared by other lawmakers, including Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren and Republican Senator Mike Lee, who have also expressed serious antitrust concerns over the creation of a "massive media giant."
