LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tensions on 'Good Morning America' may be brewing behind the cameras, as George Stephanopoulos and Robin Roberts reportedly share a frosty, distant dynamic.

According to Breaker Media, the veteran anchor is so disengaged from his co-host that he prefers to play chess on his phone rather than acknowledge her presence during off-air moments, as per The US Sun.

"The chill between colleagues—on and off camera—is best summed up by the fact that George Stephanopoulos stares down at his phone on the set of 'GMA' and plays chess instead of talking to, or even looking at, his co-host Robin Roberts," the outlet reported.

Adding to the intrigue, sources describe ABC News' work environment as "secretive and cold," though a network spokesperson dismissed the speculation, calling it "unfounded, ridiculous gossip designed to get clicks and nothing more."

Inside the alleged rivalry between ABC stars George Stephanopoulos and David Muir

This isn't the first instance where George Stephanopoulos has been caught up in rumors of tension with his colleagues. Recent reports suggest he is embroiled in a heated rivalry with 'World News Tonight' anchor David Muir.

The US Sun previously reported that Stephanopoulos pushed for a dressing room equal in size to his rival David’s as they transition into ABC’s new high-end studio. Back in 2021, Muir took over as the lead anchor for ABC News' breaking news and special event coverage, a position Stephanopoulos had held from 2014 to 2020.

An insider exclusively revealed to The US Sun that the 'GMA' star has been discreetly inquiring about the details of his 'World News Tonight' rival’s dressing room in ABC’s new downtown New York City studios.

"George has been interested in making sure he gets whatever David Muir gets," the source alleged.

"He's been asking people on his team to find out what David is getting to make sure his is comparable," one source shared. However, another insider dismissed the claims, stating there is "no merit" to Stephanopoulos showing interest in Muir's arrangements at the new studios.

Most of ABC's news shows are set to transition to the new location in 2025, though 'The View' has already made the move downtown. For now, an insider noted that Roberts, Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan’s dressing rooms in the uptown studios are fairly equal in size.

The source shared, "Robin, George, and Michael all have their own personal dressing rooms, and they're all pretty much the same size. They all have a dressing area, they all have a couch, and there are lots of pictures on the walls."
