PHOENIX, ARIZONA: At Turning Point USA’s annual America Fest conference, Greg Gutfeld explained why many people turned against President Donald Trump during his presidential run.

The Fox News host said that Trump “exposed” certain truths about the people around him, truths that were difficult to face and that many “did not want to know.”

Greg Gutfeld reveals what Trump exposed about his critics

Greg Gutfeld shared his perspective on why so many people turned against President Donald Trump during his presidential run. Drawing from his personal experience, Gutfeld reflected on the dynamics of resentment and human nature.

He said, "If you look at why people resent Donald Trump, and I've talked to, I've been thinking about this for a long time because I had the same issues in 2016, 2015, and I knew Trump."

He went on to explain, "Why do people resent anything? It's because they play a role somehow in the resentment, and they have yet to confront themselves over it. So, you know, when you're really mad at somebody, and you don't know why. A lot of times it has to do with exposing something about you."

Gutfeld pointed out that Trump’s rise revealed uncomfortable truths for those around him. "And I think with Donald Trump came up, and you had all these people that were friends with him. He exposed something about them that they didn't want to know that they like, and I'm going to use."

He also highlighted why some critics were particularly harsh. "Why were they the most extreme in their dislike for Trump? Because he exposed them to the fact that they weren't the voice of conservatism, which upset them," he remarked. "It's like, wait a minute. Sitting in my leather armchair, smoking a cigar, quoting William F Buckley, I'm in charge. And yet, it's this guy."

Gutfeld added a broader lesson about self-reflection and resentment: "If they had actually said, okay, why is this because I had to do this with myself? Why is it? Why is his success bothering me because you can, honestly, you can do this with every person in your life on a personal level. What kind of resentment do you hold, and what's your role in it?"

"And I was saying all these things, and he came in and just blew it up, and that should have been me. I'm telling you, that is behind all of the resentment about Trump in the entertainment industry, in the world of politics," he concluded.

Turning Point AmericaFest 2025 draws thousands of GOP supporters

Turning Point AmericaFest 2025 drew a large crowd of conservative activists. This year’s event was the first major Turning Point USA conference held since founder Charlie Kirk was shot and killed in September.

Attendees, including political leaders and commentators, gathered to honor his legacy, hear speakers, and discuss the future of the Republican movement under the new leadership of TPUSA CEO Erika Kirk. She even endorsed Vice President JD Vance for a potential 2028 run.
