NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld just couldn’t resist taking a swipe at his colleague Howard Kurtz after the veteran media personality closed out his twelve-year run hosting 'MediaBuzz' on Sunday, September 14.

The target was Kurtz’s farewell commentary, where he declared that political violence was “not unique” to Democrats or Republicans and that slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk was “not a saint.”

The timing of the remark was too much bait for Gutfeld to ignore.

“Maybe we can tune in next week for a clarification…oh wait…” Gutfeld posted, mocking Kurtz as the show’s curtain dropped for good.

End of the 'MediaBuzz' era at Fox News

Fox announced earlier this week that MediaBuzz was being replaced by a brand-new program hosted by White House correspondents Peter Doocy and Jacqui Heinrich.

Kurtz, who has anchored the Sunday media-watchdog slot for the past 12 years, isn’t leaving Fox entirely. He’ll stick around as a political and media analyst, while also continuing as host of the 'MediaBuzz' podcast.

Kurtz reflected on the run in a statement to Variety. “I’m extraordinarily proud of the program, which was number one for over 12 years and built a loyal audience that liked our down-the-middle approach of contrasting viewpoints and tackling sensitive subjects, with great independence, but time marches on.”

During his final sign-off, Kurtz looked back on his career and remarked how he was criticized as well as praised “often for the same comments.”

The end of 'MediaBuzz' also means the end of media criticism shows on any major network. CNN axed its long-running 'Reliable Sources' back in 2022.

Trump called for Howard Kurtz to 'retire'

The axing of Kurtz’s show came not long after President Donald Trump unloaded on him in a Truth Social rant in May.

“It is time for Howie Kurtz to retire!” Trump wrote after a 'MediaBuzz' panel sparred over the ouster of his then-national security adviser Mike Waltz.

"Every Woke Anchor in the Business, people that no one watched from CNN, MSDNC, and others, are plastered all over his show, with all really negative and fake statements, and then I am weakly ‘defended’ by Howie and his group (although Ben Domenech has been strong!)” he continued.

“The case Howie makes for me is so pathetic that it would be a lot better if he didn’t say anything. Anyway, that’s the way it is!” Trump fumed.

Kurtz fired back on X, “Lotta trolls out today. I’ve known President Trump for 35 years, and if I hated him he wouldn’t keep giving me interviews. Some people not interested in fairness.”

Howard Kurtz’s 'fair' but uncomfortable takes

Kurtz’s swipe at Charlie Kirk may be the latest example of his willingness to break from the conservative choir.

He’s lobbed sharp critiques at Trump in recent months, too. Last month, Kurtz took aim at the president’s sit-down with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, saying “it was clear not much was accomplished.”

In July, he jabbed Trump for his lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal, warning that it only spotlighted the very report Trump wanted to discredit. The controversial report claimed that he had penned a “bawdy” birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein.
