Greta Gerwig opens up about her 'crazy' surprise wedding to longtime partner Noah Baumbach
PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA: Greta Gerwig reflected on why she decided to get married to her longtime partner Noah Baumbach.
The 'Frances Ha' actress talked about her personal life while she shared her excitement about the positive reception of her movie 'Barbie' during a chat with ET at the 35th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala.

Greta Gerwig says she kept 'waiting for a moment to make a big wedding'
Gerwig who met Baumbach on the set of the film 'Greenberg' in 2010 began dating in 2011. The duo tied the knot in December 2023 in a low-key ceremony at New York City Hall.
Speaking about how the couple decided to marry after 12 years of dating, the 40-year-old actress said, "We wanted to do it, we kept waiting for a moment to make a big wedding, but suddenly we were like, 'We'll do a big wedding at some point, but let's just do it.' And we were like, 'Let's go to city hall, and let's go to Billy Joel.'"
Reflecting on the change in dynamic after they tied the knot, she said, "Yeah, it does, isn't that crazy?."
Gerwig further stated that her husband who also co-wrote 'Barbie' with her was in New York at the time along with their two children. At the gala, the couple was accompanied by 'Barbie' stars Margot Robbie and America Ferrera.

Recalling the journey of creating 'Barbie' and the audience response, Gerwig said, "Honestly, I was just so happy that the audience responded the way that it did. It was like that was the biggest gift I could ever be given as a filmmaker because I make movies that I hope connect with people."
"So, this is all like a cherry on top of a cherry on top of, I mean it’s amazing," she added.
'Barbie' achieved remarkable success, surpassing $1 billion at the box office three weeks after its debut in theaters in July 2023. With this milestone, Gerwig has become the first female director to achieve a billion-dollar movie as a solo director, creating history in Hollywood.
Joining a select group of directors with the sole credit on a billion-dollar film, the 'Little Women' director now holds the box office record for women directors surpassing Patty Jenkins's achievement with the 2017 film 'Wonder Woman', according to ET.
