Halyna Hutchins' family rips Alec Baldwin's reality show, asks him to 'face reality under oath'

SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO: The fallout from the tragic incident on the set of 'Rust' in 2021 continues to reverberate through the lives of those affected, especially Alec Baldwin.
On March 5, 2025, the family of Halyna Hutchins, the Ukrainian cinematographer who was fatally shot by Baldwin, publicly condemned Baldwin's new reality series, 'The Baldwins', in a powerful statement to People.

Halyna Hutchins’ family demands Alec Baldwin’s testimony in wrongful death civil lawsuit
The family’s words shed light on their enduring pain and the legal battle they are still embroiled in.
Premiered on February 23, 2025, 'The Baldwins' is a TLC reality show featuring Alec Baldwin, his wife Hilaria, and their seven children.
The series chronicles the Baldwin family's life in the aftermath of Alec Baldwin’s accidental shooting of Halyna Hutchins, which left the actor grappling with a public legal battle and personal turmoil.
The reality show has drawn significant attention, as it documents Baldwin’s alleged struggles with mental health and PTSD following the incident.
But for Hutchins' family, the show is seen as nothing short of “shameless.”
Reportedly, the family expressed skepticism about Baldwin’s claims of suffering from PTSD and survivor’s guilt, which are a central part of his narrative in 'The Baldwins'.
“Why is he claiming that he has PTSD? Is his reality show just a veiled attempt to create sympathy for himself with a future jury pool in our civil case? Is this just a shameless attempt to portray him as the real victim in this case?” they asked.
In their statement, they called on Alec Baldwin, 66, to testify in the wrongful death civil lawsuit filed against him.
The family made it clear that Baldwin should now face the consequences of his actions—under oath.
“The Baldwin reality show at once celebrates Mr Baldwin’s joy of being with his children while ignoring the fact that Alec Baldwin took a child away from her parents,” the statement read.
“That is the painful and actual reality with which Halyna’s parents and sister live each and every day.”
Halyna Hutchins’ family calls on Alec Baldwin to ‘face reality under oath’
Halyna Hutchins’ family went on to highlight the necessity for Alec Baldwin to confront the lasting impact his actions have had.
“It is long overdue for Alec Baldwin to admit and face the real-life consequences that he caused Halyna’s parents and sister. It is time for him to face reality under oath,” they said, urging the actor to testify in their civil case.
The incident on the 'Rust' set, which occurred in October 2021, left Hutchins dead and director Joel Souza injured.

Baldwin was charged with involuntary manslaughter after the fatal mishap when a live round was discharged from a prop gun Baldwin was holding, which had been supplied with dummy rounds by the film's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed.
Though the case against Baldwin was later dismissed due to procedural errors, Hutchins’ family is determined to hold him accountable through their civil lawsuit.
Hilaria Baldwin reveals husband Alec Baldwin’s PTSD and survivor’s guilt
Alec Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria Baldwin, discussed his emotional turmoil in the series, acknowledging the toll the incident has taken on him.
“Everyone who is close to Alec has seen his mental health decline. He was diagnosed with PTSD, and he says, in his darkest moments, ‘If an accident had to have happened on this day, why am I still here? Why couldn’t it be me?’” Hilaria shared, revealing the depth of Baldwin’s suffering.
She also spoke of the survivor's guilt her husband struggles with.

“You wake up in the morning and you're like, ‘Oh God, why did I have to wake up?’ You’re so dark and it’s so painful,” she recalled.
Despite Baldwin’s apparent struggles, Hutchins' family is firm in their resolve to hold him accountable.
Their legal team filed a notice in Santa Fe, on March 3, indicating their intention to depose Baldwin on March 9, 2025, just ahead of Mother’s Day.

Halyna’s mother, Olga Solovey, expressed her desire to hear Baldwin's explanation under oath regarding what led to her daughter’s death.
“Halyna's mother needs to hear Mr Baldwin’s explanation under oath about what led to the death of her daughter,” the family’s attorneys stated.
