ROCHESTER, PENNSYLVANIA: Vice President Kamala Harris apparently took a jibe at former President Donald Trump, indirectly calling him a "coward," reported Fox News.

Addressing staff, volunteers, and supporters at a campaign field office near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, August 18, Harris contrasted her leadership style with the GOP presidential nominee, who is notorious for his tactic of insulting opponents.

"This campaign is about a recognition that, frankly, over the last several years there's been this kind of perversion that has taken place, I think, which is to suggest that the measure of the strength of a leader is based on who you beat down. When what we know is the real and true measure of the strength of a leader is based on who you lift up," the vice president said.

She then seemingly referred to Trump without naming him, stating, "Anybody who's about beating down other people is a coward."

In response to Harris' indirect insult of Trump, the Republican's campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, cited the VP's disappearance from media interviews or news conferences since she stepped into President Joe Biden's shoes for the Democratic ticket.

"The Kamala campaign – liars, frauds, and cowards. She can't even do a sit-down interview or press conference – not even with a friendly outlet – because she's scared to death of being exposed for the coward and fraud that she is," Cheung criticized Harris in a statement to Fox News.

Unlike Harris, who has largely avoided media appearances, Trump gave two press conferences this month alone.

Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov Tim Walz, made their first stop in Rochester, Pennsylvania, following the start of their campaign bus tour at Pittsburgh International Airport on August 18 afternoon. She was accompanied by her husband, Doug Emhoff.

The Keystone State, with its 19 electoral votes, is a major battleground state that both Harris and Trump eye to win in November.

The former president visited the state on August 17 and asserted at a Pennsylvania rally in Wilkes-Barre that he was winning the state by a lot.

After their camping tour in the swing state, Harris and Walz headed to Chicago for the Democratic National Convention that kicked off on August 19, where both will be formally nominated for the race.

Internet slams Kamala Harris for indirectly calling Trump a 'coward'

Netizens condemned Harris over her apparent reference to Trump as a 'coward' and pointed fingers at her refusal to give a media interview.

"That’s rich for someone who is afraid of an interview with the media," a user said.

"This coming from the person who is scared of… QUESTIONS! I seem to recall President Trump getting shot, standing up, pumping his fist in the air and asking the Secret Service guys to grab his shoes I think we all know who the cowards are…" another remarked.

"That’s not an insult?!!! Gas lighting," added a third user.

"Kamala's the coward who runs from the press and ducks debates," read a fourth response.

"That is confusing. She calls out people who tear down others as cowards. While tearing down others. Doesn't that make her the coward? What the what?" someone else said.

"Imagine, avoiding the press as much as possible for almost a month and who is too chicken shit to debate on Fox, then calling your opponent, a coward - it's laughable," an individual chimed in.

"Says the woman who won't do a legit interview or press conference," another wrote.

"This the same woman who backed out of 2 debates bc they’re not on her network of choice?" read one remark.
