PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: During a recent interview on MSNBC's 'The Weekend,' former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair Michael Steele implored hesitant Republicans to vote for President Joe Biden in the forthcoming election instead of former President Donald Trump.

Steele's comments coincide with reports of increasing divisions within the GOP regarding the ongoing influence of Trump and the party's trajectory.

Steele Urges Anti-Trump Republicans to Vote For Biden

During the discussion, Steele highlighted the dilemma faced by some Republicans who may not align with Trump but remain reluctant to vote for a Democrat.

"And I get it. I get it with some Republicans who say, oh, 'I just can’t vote for a Democrat.' But this is not — you’re voting for your country. You’re not voting for a Democrat, in this case," he said.

Acknowledging policy differences with Biden, Steele underscored the importance of healthy political discourse within a democracy.

"I have disagreements with Joe Biden on a number of policies, y’all know. And that’s okay. But that’s a good policy. That’s good and healthy for our democracy to have those disagreements," he added.

He further criticized Trump's legal troubles and authoritarian tendencies, urging Republicans to prioritize the nation's interests over party loyalty.

"When we’re sitting here having conversations about a president with 91 federal counts against him. And people are scratching their heads and wondering, oh, I don’t know, you know, should I support him? Or says as Symone just noted he wants to be a dictator. And you, you go ‘Well, I’m still worried about the 81-year-old,'" Steele further said.

"Somehow we’ve got to shake ourselves out of that fog and understand what this is about. And I do get the idea, that it’s hard for some Republicans to go across the street. But, baby, you need to do it," he added.

Steele's comments also addressed the internal strife within the Republican Party, particularly concerning Trump's grip on the RNC.

He alleged that Trump's dominance within the party hierarchy has unsettled state-level Republican leaders, who fear marginalization as the RNC increasingly aligns with Trump's reelection efforts.

Despite growing discontent, Steele noted that many remain silent due to concerns about backlash from Trump's ardent supporters.

"I have talked to a number of former and current state party chairs and they are not happy," he told his co-hosts. "They will put on the face because they don't want to get the blowback from the MAGA nuts inside the party. But the reality is that they are not happy."

He expressed dismay over the impact on state-level party infrastructure and lamented the sidelining of experienced party operatives in favor of Trump loyalists.

"They know what this means," he continued. "People that have been in the process of building up and putting in place players who are going to actually execute on a plan, 'Oh, I guess there is one,' but Lara Trump is now in charge."

Social media slams Steele over his remark

The former RNC chair faced significant backlash on social media, particularly when he encouraged Republicans to support Biden instead of Trump at the polls.

"Well, it's pretty clear now. You are certainly a Democrat pretending to be Republican to spread propaganda. Not sure why you bother. Libs are the easily indoctrinated ones, us not so much," one posted on X.

"Hogwash!" another fumed.

"Well, he sold his soul for money so..." someone else commented.

"Steele hasn't been GOP for many, many years," another chimed in.
