BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA: Fans are overjoyed as Cillian Murphy, acclaimed for his riveting performance in 'Oppenheimer', clinches his first ever Golden Globe Award.

Murphy has been awarded the Golden Globe for best performance by a male actor in a motion picture drama for his compelling portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer in the Christopher Nolan-directed masterpiece.

This marks the actor's second Golden Globe nomination and his first win, adding a new feather to his cap.

Cilian Murphy's first ever Golden Globe Award

The film 'Oppenheimer', centers around J. Robert Oppenheimer, portrayed by Murphy, the scientist who spearheaded the Manhattan Project that led to the creation of the atomic bomb.

The film, directed and written by Nolan, features Downey Jr, Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, and Matt Damon as co-stars.

Oppenheimer has reportedly already bagged four Golden Globes from its eight nominations.

Earlier, Nolan clinched the award for best director, Downey Jr. for best supporting actor, and Ludwig Göransson for best original score.

Murphy was deeply dedicated to his role and also spoke about his weight loss to stay true to the character he was portraying, per IndieWire.

The actor mentioned that Oppenheimer alternated between smoking cigarettes and pipes and he mirrored this behavior during filming, adding, "You become competitive with yourself a little bit which is not healthy. I don’t advise it."

Nolan produced the film alongside Emma Thomas and Charles Roven of Atlas Entertainment.

The film is an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book ‘American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer’ by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin.

Murphy's competition in the category included Bradley Cooper (Maestro), Leonardo DiCaprio (Killers of the Flower Moon), Colman Domingo (Rustin), Barry Keoghan (Saltburn), and Andrew Scott (All Of Us Strangers), per Deadline.

In the comedy-drama 'Breakfast on Pluto' (2005), he portrayed a transgender woman from Ireland, a performance that garnered him a nomination for the Golden Globe Award.
