'He’s never been funny': Internet slams Jimmy Kimmel as comedian's jokes fall flat at Oscars 2024
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jimmy Kimmel, who returned as a host for the prestigious Academy Awards for the fourth time, found himself in a barrage of internet criticism after his several jokes failed to land.
The 56-year-old talk show host found himself getting criticized by several fanbases after he made jokes in 'poor' taste.
Jimmy Kimmel’s jokes that fell flat
Kimmel made one of his major faux pas for the night during his opening monologue when he referred to Robert Downey Jr's history of substance use.
Per Daily Mail, Kimmel addressed the ‘Avengers’ star and said, "This is the highest point in Robert Downey Jr's long and illustrious career."
“But, one of the highest points is-" Kimmel paused and pointing to his nose, quipped, "Was that too on the nose or a drug motion you made?”
As the camera panned toward Downey, he was seen doing the same. He, however, responded by making a gesture prompting him to continue with his monologue.
Later, he again motioned toward Downey, who took home the Best Supporting Actor Award for his role in ‘Oppenheimer’, and joked, "But look at him, he's so handsome, so talented, he's won every award there is to win. Is that an acceptance speech in your pocket or do you just have a very rectangular p**is?"
This joke, however, didn’t receive a response from the Marvel superstar who looked serious while looking at the camera.
Elsewhere, Kimmel also joked about Bradley Cooper taking his mother to the award shows and teased him by referring to Sigmund Freud’s theory of the Oedipus Complex.
Per the New York Post, Kimmel joked at the ‘Maestro’ actor’s expense as he brought his mother Gloria Campano with him to the Oscars.
Kimmel joked, "Bradley you brought your mom to the show tonight," before turning to Gloria and saying, “Hi, Mrs Cooper. How are you?”
He continued, "Bradley brings his mother to every award show. She was your date last year at the Oscars, and the Tonys, and the Soul Train Awards. It's very sweet.”
Referring to the Freudian concept of Oedipus Complex, he quipped, “But I guess the question is, how many times can one bring his mom as his date, before he is actually dating his mom?"
Elsewhere in the show, Kimmel seemingly displeased the Oscar-winner for the best actress, Emma Stone over a tasteless joke on 'Poor Things'.
As the nominations for Best Picture rolled out, Kimmel quipped at 'Poor Things' while hinting at its nude scenes. Per Entertainment Weekly, Kimmel joked, "Those were all the parts of 'Poor Things' we're allowed to show on TV," as the clips were shown.
When the camera panned on Stone, the actress seemingly muttered the word 'prick' as she showed her alleged displeasure. Nevertheless, it has not yet been confirmed by Stone or her sources.
Even the former President Donald Trump hit at him by putting a post up on Truth Social, “Has there ever been a worse host than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars. His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be," per Deadline.
Fans troll Jimmy Kimmel for his tasteless jokes
Internet users were not very fond of Jimmy Kimmel's jokes on several topics. They called out the TV host for his jokes on Bradley Cooper's relationship with his mother and referring to Robert Downey Jr's history with substance abuse.
One of the angry social media users said, "Jimmy reminds me with the kid at the back of the classroom who is the clown in each session …. Not funny but ridiculous and annoying to everyone.."

Someone else remarked, "He’s never been funny. EVER."
"Well, his jokes are aimed at his liberal audience. So, basically, 3rd grade humor," said another user who is not a fan of Kimmel's jokes.

"RDJ clearly did not find that funny. If you look at his reaction, he seemed pretty shocked that Jimmy Kimmel went there," said another fan referring to Kimmel's jibe at Robert Downey Jr.
