WASHINGTON, DC: In a recent interview, Hillary Clinton claimed that Vice President Kamala Harris was the "underdog" in the presidential contest because of the Electoral College.

"We are the underdog, that just kind of goes with the territory when we have the Electoral College staring at you, and we all have to be willing to take whatever steps to support her," Clinton told The 19th, during an interview published on Thursday, August 22.

Hillary Clinton blamed several factors over the years for her 2016 defeat

Over the years, Hillary Clinton has placed blame on a number of reasons, including the Electoral College, for her loss to Donald Trump in 2016.

Despite winning the national popular vote, she was unable to win the election because Trump narrowly prevailed in the highly competitive battleground states.

Following her defeat, in 2017, she demanded the Electoral College be "eliminated."

Hillary Clinton praised Kamala Harris at DNC 2024

The Democratic National Convention's opening night saw Hillary Clinton hail Kamala Harris as the candidate who "will fight to lower costs for hard-working families, open the doors wide for good-paying jobs," along with the restoration of abortion rights.

"I have no doubt that the other side can do everything they can [to] prevent her from winning, and they’ve had four years to plan whatever actions they can take. They are ruthless, so we have to fight as hard as we can to overcome whatever obstacles," Clinton told The 19th.

Hillary Clinton on whether Americans would elect a female US President

The 19th's Errin Haines asked Clinton if the country would need "time" and "help" to "catch up to the idea of a woman president."

"People have hesitancy because there’s no perfect woman. So I think the challenge will be to make the case on the merits, overcome the doubts and questions people have and mobilize voters to turn out because if our people vote, we will win," Clinton replied.

Hillary Clinton thrashed Donald Trump at the DNC

Hillary Clinton made multiple jabs at Donald Trump during her speech at the Democratic National Convention, claiming that he "only cares about himself."

"So no matter what the polls say, we can't let up. We can't get driven down crazy conspiracy rabbit holes. We have to fight for the truth. We have to fight for Kamala as she will fight for us. Because you know what? It still takes a village to raise a family, heal a country and win a campaign," Clinton told the DNC crowd.

In her view, Harris' campaign was a "win-win," and the vice president had earned it. During his speech at the DNC, former president Bill Clinton also praised Harris for being a candidate who would stand up for all Americans.

"Kamala Harris will work to solve our problems, seize our opportunities, ease our fears, and make sure every single American, however they vote, has a chance to chase their dreams," he said.

Internet slams Hillary Clinton for calling Kamala Harris 'underdog'

Netizens criticized Hillary Clinton for terming the US Vice President an 'underdog' for the upcoming presidential race.

One X user tweeted, "Hillary Clinton shouldn’t be allowed to have an opinion." Another added, "She’s the underdog because she’s an idiot."

"Somewhere in all of that BS is an affront, and insult to dogs everywhere," remarked one, while someone else wrote, "lol. Almost all of the media is her PR firm. She went from midwit to the second coming in a week with the media. She’s hardly an underdog."
