House GOP mocks Jamaal Bowman with 'farewell gift' after primary loss, Internet says 'got his karma'
WASHINGTON, DC: House Republicans mocked "Squad" member Jamaal Bowman after his defeat in the primary race for New York's 16th congressional district with an "unemployment package" as a parting gift.
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) trolled the far-left Democrat after he lost the Democratic primary to Westchester County Executive George Latimer by 17 points on June 25.
On Wednesday, June 26, the NRCC delivered the gift box to Bowman's congressional office containing a photo of the defeated lawmaker in full firefighter gear and a form advertising an open "fire inspector" position, according to the New York Post.
This was a reference to Bowman pulling a fire alarm last year to delay a crucial House vote.
NRCC trolls Jamaal Bowman with a $28.25-per-hour gig
The unemployment package offered Bowman a job that paid $28.25 per hour, equating to below $60,000 annually before taxes. It also contained a workplace reference from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who endorsed the hardcore Israel critic.
"In case of firing, file for unemployment," was written on a photo of a fire alarm in the package.
NRCC rapid response director Macy Gardner deemed Bowman's defeat as a warning to anti-Israel leftist Democrats.
"Despite Hakeem Jeffries being all in to help Jamaal Bowman, last night's 17-point blowout election loss should be a serious red flag for extreme House Democrats and their lurch toward Antisemitism and defunding the police," she said.
"While a new career as a firefighter might not be in the cards for Bowman, an unemployment application is — we wish him all the best of luck and good riddance."
As per the report, an aide at the lawmaker's office threw the unemployment package in the trash later. Bowman, who exited his Yonkers home a day after the defeat with a somber face, did not comment on his loss.

We hope this unemployment packet finds @JamaalBowmanNY well. Bowman knows the alarms in the Capitol work, but maybe he can use that experience to gain new employment as a fire inspector.

The congressman was caught on CCTV on September 30, 2023, pulling a fire alarm and running away from the Capitol building that, hindered the House vote to avoid a partial government shutdown. Bowman, who claimed he pulled it by "accident," later pleaded guilty to one count and paid a $1,000 fine. However, the House censured him last December.
