Ilhan Omar doubles down on Charlie Kirk attacks, says his legacy belongs 'in dustbin of history'

WASHINGTON, DC: Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar doubled down after facing backlash for her comments in the immediate aftermath of conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s death.
The Minnesota congresswoman reinforced her stance when asked on CNN if she regretted speaking out so quickly.
“It’s one thing to care about his life because obviously so many people loved him, including his children and wife," she said. "But I am not going to sit here and be judged for not wanting to honor any legacy this man has left behind. That should be in the dustbin of history, and we should hopefully move on and forget the hate that he spewed every single day.”
Omar said she could not align with what Kirk represented, labeling his legacy as one of “hate” and “rage baiting.”

Kirk, 31, was a fierce Trump ally and co-founder of Turning Point USA, using his massive social media presence and college events to fire up young MAGA voters. His life was cut short last week when he was fatally shot during a Q&A session at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

The day after Kirk’s death, Omar appeared on Mehdi Hasan’s 'Zeteo' show and criticized those defending him. “There are a lot of people who are out there talking about him just wanting to have a civil debate. These people are full of s**t, and it’s important for us to call them out while we feel anger and sadness," she said.
Rep Nancy Mace pushes censure motion against Rep Ilhan Omar
Omar’s comments quickly triggered backlash from GOP critics. Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina introduced a resolution to censure Omar and remove her from House committee assignments.
On September 18, the motion failed in a razor-thin 214-213 vote, with four Republicans siding with Democrats.
Mace argued that Omar’s remarks showed a lack of respect, but Omar dismissed the criticism.

Even CNN's Kaitlan Collins looks disappointed and disturbed with the answers given throughout this interview with the Somali-born Congresswoman. pic.twitter.com/PKlu2P6uKF
“When we say we want a country that’s united, it starts with all of us and all of our actions, and we’re not seeing that on the other side of the aisle right now," she told Kaitlan Collins on CNN Friday night
Omar added that she extended sympathy to Kirk’s family. “I cannot imagine what they are going through. But the reality is, his wife sat by him as he said those things," she said.
Donald Trump attacks Rep. Ilhan Omar in Truth Social post
President Donald Trump couldn’t resist weighing in.
President Donald Trump weighed in on Truth Social on Thursday. “Ilhan Omar’s Country of Somalia is plagued by a lack of central Government control, persistent Poverty, Hunger, Resurgent Terrorism, Piracy, decades of Civil War, Corruption, and pervasive Violence. 70% of the population lives in extreme Poverty, and widespread Food Insecurity," he wrote.

"All of this, and Ilhan Omar tells us how to run America! P.S. Wasn’t she the one that married her brother in order to gain Citizenship??? What SCUM we have in our Country, telling us what to do, and how to do it. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump added.
