LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Drew Barrymore learned the hard way that fawning over Meghan Markle doesn’t always go down well with the audience.

The beloved actress-turned-talk-show-host caught major heat for what many called a cringeworthy, overly rehearsed love fest with the Duchess of Sussex.

And now insiders have claimed that Meghan, 43, and her team were handed every single question beforehand.

Insider says it wasn't an interview but a 'scripted performance'

A TV insider told Radar Online, “Every single question was handed to Meghan's team ahead of time, which might explain why she appeared so polished throughout the segment. Apparently, there was not a single surprise or tough topic raised, leaving fans wondering if viewers were merely watching a scripted performance rather than a genuine interview."

"And they were correct because it was scripted. This carefully curated dialogue was designed to showcase Meghan in the best light. This wasn't a conversation, it was a performance. Can we even call it an interview if there are no unscripted questions?" they wondered.

The source went on to say, “Meghan's approach could be seen as a savvy PR move, but it raises the question of whether she can handle genuine scrutiny. Fans are divided—some adore her while others are losing patience with what they perceive as an avoidance of tough issues.”

“The idea that every element of the interview was pre-approved is bound to fuel speculation and gossip. Many think that it undermines the transparency expected from a public figure. This exposure might just add to the perception that Meghan is more concerned with her image than with delivering real conversations. With everything meticulously planned out, it feels more like a theatrical play than a heartfelt chat," they insisted.

Meghan’s gushy love story & the “Meghan Sussex” controversy

As if the controlled narrative wasn’t enough, Meghan also delivered a gushing monologue about Prince Harry that had some rolling their eyes.

“I did not expect to meet H and for this to be our love story. And, you know, I'm very lucky. I am married to the funniest, sweetest, most charming man," she said.

"I mean, he's all the things that you're describing. And he's an amazing father. And so, you know, I count my blessings because I have him, and also I have a partner who is so supportive of me.”

What's more? Barrymore, 50, was also the first celeb to publicly refer to her as “Meghan Sussex” after the Duchess of Rebranding corrected Mindy Kaling, 45, on Netflix for calling her Meghan Markle.

A RadarOnline TV source dished, “Drew was clearly following instructions to refer to her as Meghan Sussex. She obviously felt it was a coup to get her on the show and went along with it, even though she knew it would jar with many people watching at home.”

Drew Barrymore and Meghan Markle slammed on social media

Viewers took to social media in droves when the segment aired, calling both Barrymore and Meghan out for what they saw as a "fake" and over-the-top PR moment.

"Drew Barrymore is just as false as Meghan. All that fake hugging of complete strangers is just so false," one posted on X.

"Meghan Markle has finally met her match. Drew is even more clingier (and cringier imo) than her," another wrote.

"Barrymore also out-hugged Markle. Doesn't Drew know that is supposed to be Meghan's thing!?" someone else quipped.

"Not sure who’s more insufferable, Meghan Markle or Drew. It’s a surprise that anyone can suffer through such inane garbage. And given all the crap Meghan Markle has received over her show for being so fake, Drew Barrymore was the worst option for a talk show," read a comment.

"I'd rather watch paint dry than listen to this s***," another fumed.
