NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, March 23, to slam media coverage aiding squatters to take over unoccupied homes.

She cited an article by the New York Post titled, "Thriving how-to squatter internet forums reveal home takeover secrets: ‘You can’t stop it!’" to drive home her point, which had led many people online to side with her outrage.

The Post article mentioned various ways through which squatters target houses, which may serve as a guide for others to emulate.

One such squatter told the publication that they place a 'for sale or rent' sign on a property along with the phone number of a burner cell. When they do not get any response after days, it is a signal to them that the house can be taken over.

Others mentioned going through real estate listing sites like Zillow or Trulia to look for homes that have been on the market for extended periods without any activity before checking them out in person.

The US Representative for Georgia retweeted the publication's post sharing the article, writing, "The media absolutely loves these stories, because it creates chaos and news that they can write and show you on television in order to addict you to fear and chaos!"

"In reality, the American people deserve a government and leaders that will make all of this stop!" she continued.

"Squatters belong in jail, they don’t deserve 'how to be a squatter' articles!!"

Internet reacts to Marjorie Taylor Greene's tweet

People participated in the online outrage, as the following tweets demonstrate.

"Convicted squatters should have to squat in prison for a minimum of 10 years first offense. Life in prison for second offense," suggested a user.

"Whatever happened to equal protection under the law?" asked another.

"As more and more people come across the border, and rent remains outrageously expensive, this will happen more and more," noted a third.

"Criminals are what squatters are. Trespassing, theft and burglary...start charging them. In many instances these are FELONIES," wrote a fourth.

"The pathetic state of things. The government is PATHETIC," slammed a fifth.
