Megyn Kelly shocked over daughter's 'weird' experience at Broadway's trans 'Romeo and Juliet' remake
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Megyn Kelly shared her surprise and concern on her YouTube channel 'The Megyn Kelly Show' after her 12-year-old daughter attended a performance of the Broadway musical '& Juliet,' which she describes as a transgender reboot of 'Romeo and Juliet'.
The musical, created by David West Read, known for his work on 'Schitt's Creek', presents a modern twist on Shakespeare's classic play, focusing on Juliet's fresh beginning and a second chance at life and love with a non-binary best friend, May.

Megyn Kelly discusses daughter's visit to Broadway's transgender 'Romeo and Juliet'
Kelly expressed shock when her daughter returned from the show, revealing that there was a significant focus on "trans love and trans kissing."
Megyn said: "My daughter got asked to go to a Broadway show with a bunch of her friends. The name of the show is & Juliet, So I looked it up because I'm not a dope, just to make sure what she was going to."
"So she comes home she had a great time with her friends and she was like, "Well, it was a little weird. What was weird about it? 'She's like, Well there was a lot of trans stuff in it and like trans love and trans kissing. I was like, What?!' It's been a while since I've read Romeo and Juliet, but that's not in there."

"And even if Romeo were to die, I don't think Juliet would go trans. So I did a little googling when she got home and found this little promo video by an actor named Justin David Sullivan, who stars as the character May, who now I understand is Juliet's (non-binary) best friend in the musical. Good to know!"
Broadway debut challenges norms with non-binary character in '& Juliet'
Non-binary actor Justin has taken the Broadway stage by storm in the hit musical '& Juliet,' portraying the character May, the non-binary best friend to Juliet Montague. The show, which delves into themes of queer love and destiny, marks a significant stride in Broadway's pursuit of inclusivity and representation.
Justin, using he/she/they pronouns, shared their excitement about being part of a production that celebrates queer love in a unique and powerful way. The actor expressed the importance of having a non-binary character depicted on the Broadway stage, emphasizing that May's experience closely mirrors their own. Justin considers it a stroke of luck to be able to bring this story to life and contribute to increased visibility for gender-expansive and trans-non-binary performers.
He said: 'This show celebrates queer love in a way that Broadway has been waiting for. I have never seen a non-binary character experience in a Broadway musical before, so just to have that representation on stage is so important."
He goes on to say, "May's experience just happpens to be so close to my own and I just feel so lucky that I get to tell this story."
Justin has withdrawn from consideration for the prestigious Tony Awards in 2023. The actor argues that the awards need to become more inclusive, specifically recognizing the contributions of gender-expansive and trans-non-binary performers.
Megyn added: "This was so in your face. This guy who goes by he/she/they [who] refused to be considered for a Tony Award in 2023 because of the 'gendered categories'...and is just so happy that now we're celebrating queer love which is not at all what I thought, something based on Shakespeare and about Juliet's next chapter was going to be."
