WASHINGTON, DC: A video showing Barack Obama coming to the prime minister of the United Kingdom's official house went viral online, causing quite a stir, according to Parade.

Notably, Obama, who was US president for two terms between 2009 and 2017, was observed on Monday, March 18, at around 3 pm, arriving at British PM Rishi Sunak's home at 10 Downing Street in London.

Barack Obama 'privately' visits 10 Downing Street

Although the cause for the secret meeting has not yet been made public, it is most likely unrelated to the photo scandal that the royal family has been mired. However, this hasn't stopped fans of the royal family from posting their conspiracy theories on social media.

A lot of these theories try to link the 62-year-old former White House resident's visit to the drama surrounding the royal family, particularly Princess of Wales Kate Middleton, in a trend that has been dubbed #KateGate.

A Downing Street spokesperson said, as per PTI, "He was making an informal courtesy drop-in as part of his trip to London, where he is conducting work of the Obama Foundation."

He added, "I think President Obama’s team made contact, and obviously, the prime minister was very happy to meet with him and discuss the work of the Obama Foundation."

However, it is believed that the former US President may have also spoken on the situation in Ukraine, as per Mint.

Internet shares theories on Obama's surprise visit at Downing Street

Several people on the internet shared their take on why the former president took a surprise visit to London.

A user posted on X, "Big speculative distraction going on w/ Royal Family in London. Just something to note. Barack Obama arrived there yesterday & it would be logical to assume the situation in the White House is "involved" as well - that there's an inherent connection amidst all of these dramas."

A user also wrote, "Seems pretty Sus" while one added, "Came to see Larry the Cat, no one else in No 10 worthy of a visit from the former Potus."

Another person mentioned, "Maybe things aren't going according to plan and they're having an emergency regrouping session" while one added, "Funny because he has zero business talking to a foreign diplomat he’s no one to our government."

A person also wrote, "Indeed with this and with Obama being in london is suspicious & confusing to say the least."
