LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Lily Allen doesn’t mince her words! The singer-songwriter openly slammed Beyonce’s newest album 'Cowboy Carter' - a marked departure from her signature sound into country music.

Talking on her podcast ‘Miss Me?’ that she co-hosts with British TV and radio personality Miquita Oliver, Allen called Beyonce's decision to cover Dolly Parton's 'Jolene' 'very weird'.

What did Lily Allen not like about 'Jolene' cover?

The ‘Smile’ crooner admitted that she had listened to ‘some of’ the songs from the album.

"It's very weird that you'd cover the most successful songs in that genre," Allen said, referencing Beyonce's cover of Dolly Parton’s 1973 classic ‘Jolene’.

Co-host Oliver joined in, "I don't think the 'Jolene' one is good. ... I feel like Beyoncé could've done a bit more with it or maybe picked something that was a little less big to cover."

To which Allen said, "I just feel like it's quite an interesting thing to do when you're trying to tackle a new genre and you just choose the biggest song in that genre to cover."

"I mean, you do you, Beyonce, and she literally is doing her. Or is she doing Dolly?"

She went on to say, "To be honest, that hadn't crossed my mind, and I love me a conspiracy but I think it's been quite calculated.”

Interestingly, Allen is presently working on a new country album in Nashville, reports USA Today.

"I'm not trying to conquer the country market. I'm here because I love country music and always have loved country music; (but I'm) not saying that Beyoncé doesn't," the 38-year-old explained.

"I tell stories in my songs, and country music does the same thing."

Internet reacts to Allen’s criticism of Beyonce’s genre-switching

However, many defended Beyonce's cover song.

"Jolene is a great work. Dolly Patton, as the queen of country music, used one as a heritage and gave Beyonce an important person who carried forward country music. This is a spiritual heritage, at least in my opinion," one commented.

The second said, "She got one song we know… when is your new album coming out cause what rock did she come from behind for this calculated."

"I agree Lily except the whole thing sounds weird to me and I’m from Houston and I really enjoy all genres of music," another user said.

"Lily Allen is a British artist recording a country album in Nashville but she has something to say about Texas born and raised Beyoncé foray into the genre. Give me a freaking break," one music lover said.

"I don’t like her cover of it at all. Miley did an amazing job on Jolene," felt a user.

"Agreed. Beyonce is overrated and shady," wrote a person.
