MAR-A-LAGO, FLORIDA: During the US military operation that captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, something odd from Mar-a-Lago’s war room stole the spotlight online.

In a live feed, the giant X logo showed up on a huge screen behind President Donald Trump and his team.

People immediately jumped on it. They started cracking jokes, posting memes, and asking why X was front and center during such a serious moment. The image spread fast, and before long, it was all over social media.

The image that set off reactions

The incident in question stemmed from footage shared during news coverage of the Maduro capture, when a conversation thread from the platform accompanied a screen displaying the X logo.

The fact that Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth were scrolling through Elon Musk’s platform while the US military was striking Venezuela led to a wide range of reactions.

Some left-leaning users on X and Bluesky felt it was comically absurd.

“Also, why the f**k is X on the big screen?” the user then asked.

Another user jokingly dubbed, "Trump and his cabinet checking the timeline wasn’t on my bingo card."

Others said Hegseth looked like he was “scrolling hard” and furiously searching for “Venezuela” in the X search box.

Another user sarcastically wrote, “X IS THE MAIN SOURCE OF INFO IN THE SITUATION ROOM New images from the situation room have been released where we can clearly see they are monitoring the situation via 𝕏 (look top right) The old media and the fake news are DEAD WE ARE THE CAPTAINS NOW!”

Bluesky turns critical of Trump and Hegseth

Then over on Bluesky, which has been called ‘Blue Heaven’ for ‘The Resistance’ to Trump, the criticism was more evident.

A user vented, “For what reason would you need your X feed on the big screen while you invade another country?” She added “JFC,” for Jesus F******g Christ.

And another user said Hegseth was “overseeing the illegal detention of a foreign head of state next to a comically huge emoji on X, the everything app.”

Trump earlier on Saturday said the US would 'run' Venezuela. The president also told reporters the US would “get the oil flowing the way it should be” because America had “built that whole industry there.”

One user on X, while talking about the power of X, said, "3 tabs of X open in the background with Trump, Hegseth, and Rubio while we nab Maduro. If this isn’t evidence of the power of X, I don’t know what is."

The unexpected visual drew widespread attention online, with users questioning why X was featured so prominently during a high-stakes international operation and sparking memes, jokes, and commentary across platforms.
