LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Christina Applegate received a standing ovation as she presented the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the 2024 Emmys.

The 52-year-old actress, who had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021 while filming the third and final season of 'Dead to Me', made a rare appearance at the awards show.

Notably, she was nominated for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series at the 2023 Emmys for her role in the same show. Her presence at the awards ceremony likely resonated with fans and the industry, drawing attention to her resilience and talent.

As the crowd rose to their feet for giving her a standing ovation, Christina Applegate humorously remarked that they were "totally shaming" her by standing up, alluding to the fact that she uses a cane for support due to her multiple sclerosis diagnosis.

"Some of you may know me as Kelly Bundy from 'Married With Children,' or Samantha from 'Samantha Who,' or probably my last job as Jen Harding from 'Dead to Me', she expressed, her eyes welling up.

Adding further, she said, "Yet, only a handful of you might remember my debut as baby Burt Grizzell on 'Days of Our Lives'. It's truly been an honor for me to portray characters that are funny, flawed, and complex."

In an interview with Variety in November 2022, Applegate shared that her role as Jen Harding was not only her most challenging acting experience but also her final one, attributed to her battle with multiple sclerosis.

"It was as hard as you would possibly think it would be," she conveyed to Variety. "I got diagnosed while we were working. I had to call everybody and be like, 'I have multiple sclerosis, guys.' ... And then it was about kind of learning – all of us learning – what I was going to be capable of doing."

Applegate revisited the challenges she faced while filming 'Dead to Me' in her conversation with Variety.

When questioned about whether this show would mark her last major role, she responded, "I'm pretty convinced that this was it."

As of now, Applegate hasn't made a definitive decision about her acting career. She shared with Variety, "I'm just a newbie to all of this. I’m trying to figure it out – and I'm also in mourning for the person that I was."
