NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: House Speaker Mike Johnson took to X (formerly Twitter) to reiterate his support to Israel, six months after the Hamas attack and the start of the ongoing war in Gaza on Sunday, April 7, 2023.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also noted the occasion and tweeted, "Today we are marking six months of the war. The achievements of the war are considerable... At this moment, as the war is ongoing, we must unite to repel the attacks against us. This is the time for unity. We will stand united. We will strike our enemies. We will eliminate Hamas. We will free our hostages and with G-d's help, we will bring total victory."

Hamas reportedly attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking 240 hostages. Netanyahu launched a fiery retaliation against the organization, by military action in Gaza that has resulted in the death of more than 33,000 people in the region to date, according to The Hill.

Mike Johnson reaffirms support for Israel

The statement shared by House Speaker Mike Johnson on X read, "Six months ago today, Israelis suffered unspeakable violence and terror... I join Americans across the country who are mourning the loss of those tragically taken on October 7th."

"Since the massacre, it's been appalling to watch anti-Israel rhetoric and support for an unconditional cease-fire grow among Democrats in Washington, even as Hamas holds 130 Israelis and Americans hostage in Gaza," the House Speaker added in the statement.

"Unlike our Democrat colleagues, House Republicans remain clear-eyed about who the enemy in this fight is, and we will not stop working and praying until each of the hostages is returned home," he continued.

"Today, of all days, Washington must be united in our support for our great ally, Israel, as they fight for their sovereignty and right to exist. It's time to stop lecturing Israel on how it should best defend itself and begin equipping our friend with the resources necessary to eliminate the threat of Hamas, once and for all," Johnson further added.

Internet outraged as Mike Johnson reaffirms support for Israel

"You just funded the government that’s on both sides of this war. All the while forgetting our southern border," a user wrote on X responding to the House Speaker's post.

"What about our sovereignty and right to exist? You sure seem to have stopped caring about that," stated another.

"You care about every country except America," wrote a third.

"What about the civilian deaths in gaza? tell us your great plan for solving that?" one individual asked.

"Not a great ally. A dependent," noted another while one individual said, "You are a Netanyahu stooge who just wants another settler-funded trip to occupied territory w/ your boy @Jim_Jordan."

"Not interested in anything you have to say about anything!" one user said, while another wrote, "You should sell all of your possessions and give YOUR money to Israel, then go man a position on the frontlines. You do want to help your great ally now, don't you??"
