NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A war of words broke out between prominent figures on opposite sides of the political aisle this weekend. During an appearance on 'Fox & Friends', conservative host Sean Hannity issued a fiery response to recent controversial comments made by California Governor Gavin Newsom.

The Democratic leader had accused the Republican Party of prioritizing the rights of rapists over women. Hannity lashed out at what he called Newsom's "repulsive statement" and criticized the governor's sanctuary state policies, as per Mediaite.

His takedown quickly gained traction on social media, earning praise from online users grateful to see him challenge the left-wing governor.

The interaction stemmed from a Friday, February 23, interview with CNN's Jake Tapper where Newsom criticized Republican abortion policies.

While discussing the implications of Alabama’s recent IVF decision, Newsom stated, "What about the right of people that want to start a family? You saw the stats: 65,000 births due to rapes since Dobbs in 14 states. Apparently, what the Republican Party is saying is, the rapists have more rights to bring those babies to birth than families that are trying desperately to have the privilege you and I have had as fathers and parents. It is a disgrace."

Sean Hannity fires back at Gavin Newsom over 'repulsive' comments about Republican Party

Newsom's striking comment quickly sparked a backlash from conservative figures. Among those condemning Newsom was Hannity. During a Saturday, February 24, 'Fox & Friends' appearance, Hannity referenced the Governor’s "repulsive" remarks and offered a fiery rebuttal.

"I’ll tell you, the comments yesterday made by Gavin Newsom about how Republicans are putting rapists ahead of the women that they impregnate — by the way, Gavin, repulsive statement by you," Hannity began.

He then spoke directly into the camera to address Newsom himself, placing blame on the California governor for crimes committed by illegal immigrants in California. Hannity tied Newsom’s sanctuary state policies to unvetted migration across the southern border.

"Every crime committed in your sanctuary state of California, including raping and the murders that have taken place, illegal immigrants, that is because of your policies, Joe’s open borders," Hannity asserted. He concluded that the Biden administration and Newsom himself bear responsibility for security risks associated with unchecked border crossings.
