WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden's performance on Thursday night's debate against former President Donald Trump caused discomfort for a number of elderly citizens and residents of an assisted living facility in Chevy Chase, Maryland, who discussed the same with Politico.

During the debate, Joe Biden made a meandering statement about the US healthcare system that concluded, "We finally beat Medicare."

One senior citizen 'put her head in her hands' after Joe Biden's 'Medicare' remark

According to Politico, 81-year-old Barbara Goldberg "put her head in her hands" and repeated Biden's remarks while observing the proceedings. "We finally beat Medicare?" she said, adding "I don’t like to see [Biden’s] gaffes, but I don’t like to see Trump going haywire and cockamamie either."

"In terms of just physical relationship to the camera, Trump is doing better," Maguire said, adding that "Trump says garbage." "I do think Biden’s age is showing at this debate, and it pains me," she said.

Another senior citizen admitted Joe Biden 'is not a good performer'

"Let’s face it, a debate is a performance," Claire Moses, 83, told the outlet. "Biden is not a good performer," Moses said, adding "And I’m very sad tonight because I think that Biden is a great president, and he is a great president because of what he has done, what he has accomplished, not how he speaks."

Several political commentators and journalists called on Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 race

In the hours that followed his debate performance, a wide range of political pundits and journalists urged Biden to drop out of the 2024 race. "If Biden truly believes Democracy is on the line, he should step aside and let another Democrat step in to take on Trump. Put the country first," Alyssa Farah Griffin of 'The View' said.

"Joe Biden should save his legacy by ending his candidacy," Vox correspondent Eric Levitz wrote.

Even Van Jones asserted that the party needed to "figure out a different way forward" in time for the convention in August, citing a growing belief among Democrats that they "want to see him consider taking a different course now."

"There is time for this party to figure out a different way forward, if he will allow us to do that, but that was not what we needed from Joe Biden and is personally painful for a lot of people," he said, adding "It's not just panic, its pain of what we saw tonight."

Netizens predict Joe Biden's downfall after CNN debate

Internet users criticized the current president for planting the seeds of skepticism among both his allies and political opponents alike. One user tweeted, "Biden is a very bad example of a senior citizen." Another asked, "Biden is finished. Who is going to replace him?"

"I cannot believe how many democrats say they were surprised by his performance. Have they had their heads in the sand for the last 2 years?" wondered one while a user commented, "Can you imagine this guy in important negotiations with foreign governments."

"Who is really running this country because we ALL KNOW it is not Biden, the debate proved that," remarked one. "Everything this guy’s done is a mess. He hasn’t had one good deed for America," penned someone else.
