NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Marvel Studios has severed ties with actor Jonathan Majors after he was convicted of assault and harassment charges in court this week.

Majors had key roles across multiple upcoming Marvel projects, leaving major questions about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as reported by Deadline.

Jonathan Majors' Kang character was set to be the next big overarching Marvel villain

Majors has had a meteoric rise in Hollywood over the past few years, including major roles in Marvel’s Phase 4 lineup as the character Kang the Conqueror. He first appeared as a Kang variant named He Who Remains in the Disney+ series 'Loki' in 2021.

Most recently, he played the villain Kang in February’s 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania', which kicked off Marvel’s Phase 5.

With a complex character appearing across timelines and universes, Kang was set to be the next big overarching Marvel villain similar to Thanos. Majors had been confirmed to appear in at least two upcoming Avengers films - 2025’s 'Avengers: The Kang Dynasty' and 2026’s 'Avengers: Secret Wars'.

But this week, following his conviction of assault, Marvel has announced it is parting ways with the actor.

Jonathan Majors convicted on charges of assault and aggravated harassment

The charges stem from a domestic dispute in March of this year. Majors was arrested after an altercation with his girlfriend at the time, Grace Jabbari, which prompted criminal charges including third-degree assault and second-degree aggravated harassment.

The two-week trial wrapped up last week, culminating in a guilty verdict on both the charges. Majors now faces sentencing in February.

In addition to being dropped from future Marvel projects, Majors has already faced career fallout. He was previously dropped by his talent agency, his PR firm, a film adaptation, an Otis Redding biopic, and a Major League Baseball ad campaign. The situation has gone from a rising star to a falling star in the span of a year.
