‘It will make Biden big guy’: Mitt Romney says if he were POTUS, he ‘would've immediately pardoned Trump’
SALT CITY, UTAH: Utah GOP Senator Mitt Romney recently said that if he were President Joe Biden, he would have “immediately pardoned” former president Donald Trump.
Romney added that Biden made a tactical mistake by not pardoning Trump from legal prosecution.
What did Mitt Romney say about Donald Trump's pardon
In an interview with MSNBC's host Stephanie Ruhle, Mitt Romney said, "He should have fought like crazy to keep this prosecution from going forward," adding "It was a win-win for Donald Trump."
While the President of the United States can pardon only in federal cases, Romney argued that Biden "made an enormous error" by not pardoning his predecessor or pressuring New York prosecutors to drop their hush money case against Trump.
He said, "You may disagree with this, but had I been President Biden, when the Justice Department brought on indictments, I would have immediately pardoned him," adding "I'd have pardoned President Trump."
"Why? Well, because it makes me, President Biden, the big guy and the person I pardoned a little guy."

Romney contended that there was a political precedent for this kind of action during the administration of Lyndon B Johnson.
"I have been around for a while. If LBJ had been president and he didn’t want something like this to happen, he’d have been all over that prosecutor saying, ‘You better not bring that forward, or I’m gonna drive you out of office,’" Romney argued.
Trump's hush money trial is still underway in New York and supporters of the former president have called it a "sham" orchestrated by Democrats in advance of the 2024 election. Romney referred to his fellow Republicans' deeds as an "enormous mistake."
He said, "I think it’s a terrible fault for our country to see people attacking our legal system that’s an enormous mistake," Romney said when asked about the political display.
"I think it’s also demeaning for people to quite apparently try and run for vice president by donning a red tie and standing outside the courthouse. It's just I'd have felt awkward," he added.
Romney's interview gets widespread attention
Several social media users opined on Romney's interview, with a user commenting on the Fox News article, "Trump doesn’t require a pardon, that would imply guilt. He’s doing just fine on his own."
Another wrote, "I don’t often agree with Romney, but as a winning strategy; I agree, Biden really (thankfully), blew a political opportunity….personally, Trump doesn’t need pardon, but to grant him a pardon, Biden would have scored a major blow against the Trump campaign. "
One person said, "The scary thing is, he hasn't hit bottom yet. He's liable to do anything as his time grows short and his chances for reelection dwindle."
Another added, "You can't pardon someone who hasn't been convicted there, Mitt."
One individual wrote, "Romney falsely attacked Newt Gingrich,s integrity, and ended up strapping us with Obama. I’ll never forget that."
