WASHINGTON, DC: Whoopi Goldberg, a celebrated TV figure and host of 'The View', has faced criticism for her open appeal to Liz Cheney.

The actress, who received accolades from the new cast of 'The Color Purple' for her Oscar-nominated role in the 1985 film, has publicly voiced her wish for Cheney to make a presidential bid as a strategy to offset Donald Trump's sway.

The report of Whoopi Goldberg pleading with Cheney to consider running for the presidency as an independent candidate has emerged after the former Republican Congresswoman criticized Ron DeSantis for his comments on the January 6 defendants.

During a discussion with Margaret Brennan on CBS' 'Face the Nation' that aired on Sunday, January 7, the rep from Wyoming declared that the Governor of Florida was "unfit for office."

The appeal was made on Wednesday during Cheney's inaugural appearance on the enduring ABC program, as reported by The Hill.

"We probably don't agree on a lot of stuff but we agree on the fact that we have a lot of respect for the country," the host told Cheney.

"Do you see yourself, and would you ever consider being the conduit to that third party, because I don't know the Republican party, as we knew it, will survive this. Would you consider, please would you, consider being that person?" she insisted.

Goldberg concluded the unexpected proposal by stating, "I'm begging you. I'm down on one knee."

Cheney reportedly mentioned earlier in the interview that she has not dismissed the possibility of a future presidential run and that she has not yet decided.

"But I think it's really important this election cycle, everyone has to go vote," Cheney stated.

"You've got to be willing to say I'm not going to vote for the candidate who is from the party I belong to, I'm going to vote for the candidate who I trust to protect the Constitution," per the outlet.
