Jamie Foxx reveals he thought he was being 'pranked' after waking up from 20-day coma
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: Jamie Foxx recalled his recovery from a medical incident that left him in a coma for 20 days two years ago during his appearance on 'The Graham Norton Show' on Friday, January 17.
The 57-year-old went on the talk show on BBC One to promote his new Netflix movie, 'Back in Action', along with co-star Cameron Diaz. The film marks the latter's first feature film in a decade, as per the Mirror US.
Jamie Foxx used humor as a coping mechanism after being in a coma for weeks
Jamie Foxx was hospitalized in the United States back in April 2023 after suffering a brain bleed that led to a stroke. As per the publication, the "medical complication" left 'The Django Unchained' star in a coma in the hospital for weeks.
Speaking of recovering from his ordeal, the actor shared, "I didn’t remember anything happening so when I came to 20 days later I thought I was being pranked. It was beyond crazy. When I woke up, I found myself in a wheelchair. I couldn’t walk."
Reflecting on his struggle, Foxx added, "God blessed me with money and fame, but when I forgot about God, He blessed me with a stroke."
In his conversation with host Graham Norton, and his fellow guests which included Diaz, Michelle Yeoh, and Jonathan Bailey, Foxx shared that he used humor to help himself get back in the public eye after his recovery.
"I knew I had to get back and realized the way to do it was by being funny. I told so many jokes people thought I was mad, and then I would act as someone else – for three whole days I was Denzel Washington," he explained.
Cameron Diaz on returning to acting after 10-year hiatus
After a 10-year hiatus, 52-year-old Cameron Diaz makes her return to film with the Netflix movie which the Daily Mail describes as a comedic spy-thriller. In the film, she and Foxx play former CIA agents who are now married with children.
On the show, Diaz shared, "I am back all thanks to Jamie. I had 10 years of not paying attention to anything; not accepting any advances, and then I got this script and thought that maybe it was time. If I was going to leave my family for 10 hours a day I wanted to do it with the most talented man in the entertainment business."
"It is a privilege to make films, and we are all so lucky to do what we do. That the door was even open for me after a decade was amazing," she continued.
"I loved those 10 years for me and my family, but I thought, 'If I let this go away, if I don’t engage again, and if I don’t give it chance, I am a fool.' It might be the beginning of something, but it's here now and I am grateful for it," 'The Holiday' star added.
'Back in Action' is currently streaming on Netflix.
