Jamie Lee Curtis' X exit comes as Donald Trump chooses Elon Musk as DOGE leader
Jamie Lee Curtis’ decision to leave X comes amid Elon Musk’s vocal support for Donald Trump, who selected Musk to lead a new “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) once he takes office in January.
The news aligns with the trend of numerous celebrities, including Elton John, Whoopi Goldberg, Jim Carrey, Gigi Hadid, Toni Braxton, and Shonda Rhimes, deactivating their accounts since Musk’s acquisition of X in 2022.
Curtis, known for using her platform to share updates and engage with fans, also took the opportunity to voice her concerns following Trump’s election victory over Kamala Harris, describing it as a return to a “more restrictive, some fear draconian time.”
“Many fear their rights will be impeded and denied,” Curtis stated.

“Many, minority groups and young people will be afraid. Gay and trans people will be more afraid," she added in part.
"We know that many women will now find it difficult to get the reproductive healthcare that they need and deserve. For all those people there will be those who will help you. Me included,” wrote Curtis.
Jamie Lee Curtis joins The Guardian in X departure following election
Jamie Lee Curtis’ exit follows those of other high-profile accounts, including The Guardian, which left X citing “often disturbing content promoted or found on the platform, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism.”
The Guardian said that the recent election “served only to underline what we have considered for a long time: that X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use its influence to shape political discourse," Variety reported.
Curtis, who often used her X account to discuss current events, ended her statement with a call to action in response to Trump’s win.
She urged, “But what it really means is that we wake up and fight. Fight for women and our children and their futures and fight against tyranny, one day at a time. One fight at a time. One protest at a time."
"That’s what it means to be an American. That’s what it has always meant and will always mean regardless of the outcome,” concluded Curtis.
