Jana Kramer disagrees with Blake Lively’s stance on domestic violence while promoting ‘It Ends With Us’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jana Kramer is not hiding the fact that she did not like the way Blake Lively promoted her movie ‘It Ends With Us’.
Ever since the promotion of the motion picture based on Collen Hoover’s novel of the same name started, Lively has received her fair share of heat for downplaying the film’s sensitive theme of domestic violence.
In ‘It Ends With Us’, Lively plays the role of florist Lily Bloom, who is a domestic abuse survivor. She has, however, often been called out for her 'tone deaf' promotion of the movie.
Lively, 36, who is also a producer for the film, came under fire from the fans for not talking about the social issue in her promotion tours.
Now, Jana Kramer, who has experienced domestic violence herself, is calling out the mother-of-four for her take on the promotion.
Jana Kramer slams Blake Lively’s words
During one of her promotional interviews, Blake Lively said that Lily Bloom’s experience with domestic violence does not “define her".
The ‘Sisterhood of Traveling Pants’ star said in an interview with BBC News, “She defines herself, and I think that that’s deeply empowering to remind people that no-one else can define you. No experience can define you. You define you.”
However, the ‘One Tree Hill’ star doesn’t agree with it. Kramer said on her ‘Whine Down Podcast’ recently, “I would love the messaging to go to DV with media, instead of talking about riffs and everything else. The movie is about domestic violence," per Just Jared.
Kramer, who has had experience with domestic violence herself, admitted, “I haven’t seen the movie. I have a tough time watching movies that deal with domestic violence given my history with it.”
She even claimed that initially, she thought the movie was a rom-com based on the promo. She admitted she realized the true subject matter only when she “started hearing stuff about the interviews".
Kramer shared, “For me, I was just, like, it made me sad because I just want the messaging to be about domestic violence and how to help people and how to get help.”
The ‘One Tree Hill’ star shared, “It’s hard for people to talk about domestic violence when they haven’t, themselves, been, in real life, had the hands of domestic violence on them.”
“So, for people to say it doesn’t define you, it does define you. … It has made me who I am. And though people can say, ‘It doesn’t define you,’ it is one of the biggest pieces of me, is domestic violence, and has been the biggest thread in my life,” admitted the 40-year-old actress.
Blake Lively fears 'It Ends With Us' controversy may hamper her career
Jana Kramer's criticism of Blake Lively came at a time when the 'Gossip Girl' alum is allegedly fearing for her career after the on-set drama of 'It Ends With Us'.
As Lively and her 'It Ends With Us' co-star and director Justin Baldoni failed to make a joint appearance in the New York premiere of the film, the speculations of an on-set rift first started circulating. Later sources shared that Baldoni was "borderline abusive" and "dismissive" of Lively's artistic inputs on the sets of the film.
However, the on-set drama, along with the promotional debacle created an unsavory atmosphere surrounding the film and made Lively fearful for her career. A source shared, per Daily Mail, that Lively thought this project would be "her moment to shine," but now fears it might signal "the end of her career".
The insider added, “She thought this was her moment to shine but is now looking at it like the end of her career. She’s fearing no one will want to work with her after this."
“She really wants to continue producing and directing and acting but she knows she needs to take a step back for a minute to reassess the future," added the source.
